AMA Goes Home

Modupe    Abiodun Ayanniyi was born into the family of Chief and Mrs Samuel Alli Oloko of Ekotedo Ibadan on 27th of December 1936.

Her father Chief S. A Oloko MBE, a retired accountant was a Co_founder and the first President of Ibadan Progressive Union ( I P U).

Her paternal grandfather was the popular fish trawler magnate of the Ojo Oloko fame of Agodi Ibadan, Biodun maternal grandfather was the famous great philanthropist of his days, Samson Okeowo who in 1913 made an exceptional contribution to the founding of the great Ibadan Grammar School by donating hIs Storey building at Alekuso in Ibadan for the take - off of the school free of charge for over ten years, the school that has and is still producing many heroes of our present time.

She attended Anglican Girls School Oritamefa in Ibadan from 1949 - 1952 and proceeded to Divisional teachers training College from 1955 -1956, after which she started her teaching career.

In 1960 she proceeded to the famous Goverment teachers training college in Idi- aba Abeokuta for her Grade 11 teacher certificate.

A product of the University of Ife now Obafemi Awolowo University where she obtained diploma certificate in education with Speciality in pre- primary education has a teaching career spanned  from Classroom teacher to head of school for 35 years, after which she retired to found the then  His Grace Nursery and Primary School Adabeji Oluyole extension.

Abiodun got married on 11th of September 1962 to Chief S. Layiwola Ayanniyi of blessed memory and the union lasted for 42 years before Daddy went to be with the Lord in 2004

The union was blessed with six spectacular girls with include an educationist  and a minister of the Gospel, a successful jeweller and journalist, an international author and magazine publisher, an Agricultural consultant and manufacturer, a school proprietor and lastly a lawyer.

A well travelled woman and a woman of many parts was a Jerusalem pilgrim, a very active member in the Lord's vineyard at the St Davids Church where she married into.

She was a layreader emeritus, member of the Young Women Auxilliary Society, the Mothers' Union, Afadura jagun and many others.

She was the Matron of some church societies in St Davids and St Lukes churches.

She was a member of christian sisters and Gideon International.

Biodun was on board of David Hinderer Nursery and Primary School.

Mummy was a member of the Customary court panel and also a member of the popular Human Right panel named 'Agborandun' that were aired on the Television in the 80s.

She used to be a member of the Oyo state pension board panel executives.

According to one of her daughters she said ' if her mum was to come back to the world the second time she strongly believes she's going to be a big time philanthropist and a human right activist'.

Mummy was generous to a fault although very strict and a disciplinarian to the core, she was also very accommodating, warm and loving. Always ready to put a smile on peoples faces, a family friend once described her as a 'noiseless philanthropist' .

She was a firm believer in the education of a girl - child and that was what prompted one of her daughters to start a foundation in her name even while she was still alive: AMA FOUNDATION ... Education for the girl - child. ( AMA is an acronym from her name : ABIODUN MODUPE AYANNIYI).

Hers was a fulfilled life well lived! She was ever gratefull to God!

She is survived by her Children, grandchildren, brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and well wishers.

Her long standing friends include Dupe Idris, Olaide Bakre, Kutu Kehinde and Mope Peluola.
