Dear Adefemi, Happy belated birthday. You would cooked your 'best ever'jollof rice and various stews. Sun re oh
My dear friend, Femi
Femi was a friend of mine
A dear childhood friend of mine
I met at a boarding school called Kent College
Some 35 years ago - that was indeed a privilege!
Back in the Eightees, now all a haze
Those seem to be such carefree days
With homesickness and Prep as our greatest woes
And of course, cross country runs across woods and meadows
Right from the beginning, she stood out
As someone with whom you wouldn't mess about
Principled, responsible, a Christian devout
Plain-spoken yet understanding without a doubt
She was like a big sister, compassionate and caring
And kept us all in check, from misbehaving
She once talked us out of watching an 18 movie
Which for a group of 16 year olds was a big deal to go and see
She tolerated PE and enjoyed Speech & Drama
Got her article published in the school magazine, Saga
And partook willingly in midnight feasts and pillow fights
Her cheeky chuckle could be heard well before she came into sight
With time we all spread out, to the four corners of the globe
Yet Femi maintained the circle of friends, with her as the central spoke
Through her, news of each other we learnt
Of life taking many an unexpected turn
She led by example in showing us how to be
Bold and fearless in the face of adversity
Always cheerful and with such positivity
She endured gracefully and with quiet dignity
Just count your blessings, she once told me
I realised then, that's how she coped so admirably
Selfless, encouraging and never complaining
She soldiered on, her faith unwavering
Despite her health, living life to the fullest
She did so much, she was simply the coolest
An exceptional individual, a wonderful inspiration
Her amazing achievements worthy of commendation
To adorn His crown, as a precious jewel dazzling radiantly
God called her home, from pain and suffering to be set free
Where, rejoicing in His glorious presence for all eternity
We'll meet again, my dear friend Femi.
Grateful, spiritual, steadfast, strong, and always full of zest for life,
Aunty Femi embodied a purity of heart that transcended this earthly life. Her courage in the face of so many challenges is a lesson to us all: with God, we have nothing to fear of the unknown. With faith, we have nothing to fear of the unknown. Always leading by example, Aunty Femi showed us that the presence of pain is no reason to stop living, like her, we must aspire to live and love with no fears of the unknown. She did everything possible to keep her body going as she fulfilled her dreams including the publishing of the remarkable children's book series "Ijapa & Friends" I was lucky to share this excitement with her in the twilight of her life and I will forever be grateful.
While this moment leaves us all with tears and overwhelming sadness, we must search within the depths of our own grief and remind ourselves that Aunty Femi is now relieved of the pain & suffering of her earthly life and gone to dwell in the house of the Lord. As we celebrate the joyous, exuberant, and loving Aunty Femi...as we reflect on the inspiring and dynamic life she led, our tears will become comforting memories...physical reminders of the warmth she exuded.
Through each tear, we are blessed with a feeling of light shining upon us from her new place at the table of our father Jesus Christ. There are many unknowns, but we know she is smiling.
Rest peacefully, We love you Aunty Femi! -Titilola A. Bakare (Lolly)
The true love that you are lives on
Adefemi, it's been unreal these past six days. Visiting this website kind of brings the reality home. I broke down and truly wailed a number of times. Adefemi, you're the only friend who enteres our bedroom without knocking knowing it was uncalled for; the only friend I get into the bathroom with and chat away.
Your visit to us again, just few weeks to your parting is cherished forever. Mumsie was your main concern as you said a number of times. "I don't want to go before mumsie, Jesu l'oba". Mumsie will be comforted (Amen). Your true love lives on, my darling.
Heaven is your Home
Saddened with the news of your passing unto glory... I bless God for the life you lived here on earth...
Glad you met with and lived for Jesus which is our only assurance that you're in a much better place in heaven and you now rest in the bosom of our Saviour.
Heaven is a much beautiful place with you Adefemi... Rest in the Lord until we meet again as I'm fully persuaded that 'when the row is called up yonder', we will see to part no more...
You're loved and will truly be missed!
My Femi
When I was struggling trying to cope with a difficult time in my life and my whole life was consummed with my son's disability, Femi sent me a cheque, not because she thought I needed money but because she wanted me to spend some money on a small treat for myself. She was like that. I remember sobbing for a good hour at her beautiful understanding, timing and sweetness. I never cashed the cheque and never did anything for myself either. Her gesture was enough to restore my faith in humanity. I have so many stories like this with Femi. I can't stop thinking about her :(
Poem written by Adefemi in 2015, this has been a comfort to us all. Femi as always thinking of others!
Don't weep or mourn for me when I am no more
Rejoice because I am in a better place where there is no weeping or sorrow or tears or pain
I am in my Father's house, walking on streets of gold, dancing with the Angels, cheering you on with the cloud of witnesses
Don't weep or mourn for me when I am no more
Rejoice because I lived a good life and I experienced God's favour and blessings
I enjoyed the beautiful sunsets and the different seasons that declared the glory of God, I saw God in creation and felt His hands upon my life
Don't weep or mourn for me when I am no more
Rejoice because and be glad that I have fulfilled my appointed days, my name is written in the "Book of Life"
I know the Lord and I have only transitioned into eternal life
Don't weep or mourn for me when I am no more
Rejoice and be glad that you have the Spirit of all comfort and you are wrapped up in His everlasting love
This is not goodbye, it is only till we meet again!
