His Life
August 31, 2015

Mr Alfred Minjo, fondly called “Nyaah” has been a professor at the University of Douala, Department of Linguistics since 1996.  He was born in Mundum I, to Pa Bernedict Minjo of Alori and Mami Rosca Minjo both of late.  Young and ambitious, Alfred attended Catholic school Mberewi, completed and proceeded to Longla Comprehensive College.  He completed his O levels and moved to the A levels where he came out two years later (987) in flying colors.  Dad had retired as a court registry clerk, but that did not deter him from proceeding to Yaounde University where he read Modern Letters.  He later moved to the University of Lagos, in Nigeria where he read English graduating with a Masters Degree in 1995.

He returned to Cameroon and joined the Douala University.

Three weeks ago, with the children on vacation, he travelled with them to Bamenda so they could visit their uncles and grandMum.  The family was very happy to see him and the children.  He was in full health.  He was in a hurry and rushed back to Douala to go and supervise Thesis for the students at the University.  The children followed later, barely arrived two weeks ago in Douala.

On Thursday August 27, he was standing at a bank waiting in line to carry out a transaction.  He collapsed, hit his head and was rushed to Laquintinie Hospital in Douala.  Several Doctors intervened to save him from the trauma and shock he was apparently in.  On Friday, he was moved to Hopital General.  Nyaah couldn’t make it and passed away quietly still in the coma.

The family, the Mundum community, his beloved friends and business partners, and his students at the Douala University, especially those whose Theses he was supervising will deeply miss him.

Nyaah, you couldn’t have done this to us !  Farewell, the Lord Bless your footpaths.
