Who is a good man?

April 6, 2015

It has not been easy coming to terms with the sad reality that brother Ngwa Al;fred Mforne is no more. For once, I could not find words to give Helen the "bomb" as released by my wife, especially as Helen was about travelling to Douala for an assignment from her husband. It turned out that was his last assignment to her! How that night and the next couple of days passed await some form of poetry.
As  can be expected, mouths have been very active chatting, conversing, sharing, gossipping. The story of the six blind men describing an elephant  based on the part each touched comes vividly to mind.
His generousity is the part that stroke me most. Sometime in 2003 I was very sick and was in the U.S. with my elder sister for check up. We knew ourselves but were not so close. Based on the fact that our wives were close. and perhaps that I was Principal in GHS Bafut at the time, he paid my flight to visit him in Atlanta in order to cheer me up. He put in the best to give me a "taste" of the juicy part of life in America. I was given red carpet treatment. Many people have similar testimonies; but I have also heard quite a few controversies since his demise. Put together, they raise the question, "Who is a good man?"
For all I know, brother Mforne had a "good Heart".  God, our master Examiner reserves the right to classify us as good or bad! Safe journey brother.

Bro, at this present moment as I write this, I am still in shock. It feels as though I am stuck in a dream and I cannot seem to wake myself up. I just cannot believe that you are gone. I can still hear your voice from when we last spoke saying “Sis, the worst is over. When I am discharged home from the hospital I am coming to Maryland.” It was just last week you were telling me that you and I shall work together and organize a party for Phil’s graduation this May. Just a small example of the man you have always been; a family man. But your love never stopped there. Whether it was love for your neighbors, friends, church, or community as a whole, you always did your utmost best to be there for any and every one. You had a humble presence that touched the lives of everyone you came into contact with. You have been a wonderful brother to me. Only you truly understand the bond that we shared. I am beyond thankful to God for all the time we have been able to spend together. You have left behind an unforgettable legacy of ‘loving and caring’, which I shall carry on with me for the rest of my life. Know that your absence truly is painful, but as I Christian, I believe you are in a better place. Until we meet again Bro, may your soul forever rest in peace.

With love,

Sis (Mary Ngwa Nana)
