So sorry to hear that Al passed away. He was very nice guy. I enjoyed talking with him at family get togethers. My condolences to his family.

I remember the night we met. You interrogated me intently about the books I had read. The meeting always struck me as funny. If I hadn't read the classic books you asked me about, I would have been a pitiful example of an English major. What was remarkable, however, is that you read all of them and many more.

See you on the other side. As Scout was would say, tell everyone "hey" for me. Peace.

I met Dr. Sferra several years ago as a college student attending Caldwell with Lynn, a dear friend.  I remember his warm greeting, his smile and most of all his witty sense of humor.  I remember that he usually said something to which Mrs. Sferra would exclaim "Alfred!!"

It was years later, with the help of Lynn and Mary in his dental office, I was introduced to my wonderful husband, Tom.  They arranged a blind date for us 28 years ago and we have been together ever since.  I'm sure Dr. Sferra had something to do with that!!

I also remember those early Saturday morning dental appointments.  Who wants to spend their Saturday mornings at the dentist!  But, it was all worthwhile.  Upon arrival, we were all warmly greeted with a hug from Mrs. Sferra and then would truly enjoy our chats with Dr. Sferra, always concerned about all of us.

A few funny memories of my Uncle Al

March 9, 2011

I have some fond  & funny memories of my Uncle Al. He was a funny witty man! I remember at a family gathering at our house, when we were lttile kids, he put Benny Hill on TV and told us we had to watch this. He sat with us on the floor and we were laughing until Margaret and Harriet came in and saw what we were laughing about...they both yelled, "Alfred!!!! Children should not be watching that!".

I remember his crazy plaid polyester golf pants, especially the ones he wore to my high school graduation party at our beach house. They had a huge hole in them:) yet he did not care:)

When I lived in California we met for lunch and afterwards he & Aunt Margaret came back to my apartment .He came out of the bathroom laughing and told me he used my "display towels"...the ones you put out but never use...AND he was right!

Uncle Al always praised my Mom's cooking. He once said that eating at Harriet's was better then eating at the finest restaurant.

At Lynn's wedding I wore a gorgeous gown. In the middle of the dance floor at the reception he came over and lifted my dress! He said he had never seen my legs since I wore pants alot...he kept doing that to me several times, teasing and laughing and showing other people.

He will be missed but knowing he is in heaven w/ Harriet and Henry is a comfort. He lived a good and long life.

May it comfort my Aunt, cousins and their family to know you have family in Michigan who cares. We love you and will always have those funny moments and memories forever. xoxo Patti
