Alice Thelma Trammell Portress was born on August 14, 1926 in Coweta County, Georgia to the late Walter and Tommie Smith Trammell.

She grew up in Grantville, Georgia and graduated from the Grantville Training School on May 23, 1945.  She joined the Jehovah Baptist Church at an early age where she served as a choir member and member of the Mother’s Board.  She entered in holy matrimony to the late John Henry Portress, Jr. on July 7, 1949.  She was very active in the Community and served on the Grantville Board of Commission for thirty years.

She leaves to mourn her passing, four sons, Henry, Anthony, Richard and Ronald; three daughters-in-law, Thelma, Patricia and Mary; five siblings, Dorothy (Lewis) Shy, Gus (Barnell), Raleigh (Ann), Richard and Margaret; sixteen grandchildren; and a host of relatives and friends.
