or you can smile because she has lived.
You can close your eyes and pray that she'll come back
or you can open your eyes and see all she's left.
Your heart can be empty because you can't see her
or you can be full of the love you shared.
You can turn your back on tomorrow and live yesterday
or you can be happy for tomorrow because of yesterday.
You can remember her and only that she's gone
or you can cherish her memory and let it live on.
You can cry and close your mind, be empty and turn your back
or you can do what she'd want: smile, open your eyes, love and go on.

Ek mis jou so my liefste sussie. Rus in vrede.
Let GOD keep her soul in peace.
But memories of you Professor Amanda Minnaar, will Live on and never die. My careers as a Food Scientist were shaped by your good leadership and inspiration at the department in the years you admitted me into the department. For this I am grateful and will find it hard to forget your humble heart as a mentor. Even though things appeared hard your being there made it happen. May your soul find a good place to rest in eternal peace
My sincere condolences to your family and husband, Francois. Both you and your husband were so very kind to me and I will always be very appreciative of that fact.
You profoundly touched my life....from helping me develope a passion for food science to moulding my character. What an absolute honour it was to have known you and be taught by you. I will be forever grateful for all that you wholeheartedly gave to me.
I will always remember you when I play my guitar. It is still painful to think that I will never be able to play with you again. However, I'll remember how you would happily sing and play "A thousand years" with me--one of your favourites. Thank you for sharing your love of music with me and instilling a strong attachment to guitar.
I will miss our chance encounters in the corridors and kitchen of the Food science department where, as usual, you would always inquire how *I* was...even though you were battling with something so much more extreme. I was always truly in awe of your selflessness and positivity. My hope is that during my life span I will embrace the same selflessness and positivity that you expressed so that your memory will always be remembered. RIP Prof Minnaar, I will sorely miss you...
Long ago on the Sand of time
Short again in the hour at hand.
The Volcano eruptes its thin and thick
Its horizon to all its kin and kith
Phases and Stages our races they say
Battle and hustle our game to play
Yonders and Wonders the Journey to claim.
Arena of struggle our might only lame.
Smiling for free, Minaar I see.
Mother to W'all, my world reveal
Forces inward, her crib is blis
Touching each one that come to see
Science Filled the mind, golden soul in mine
Blinking all its shines not just in While's
Dazzling through her world
Her action speakes the word
Fighter that I know,Minaar we salute your cause
Oh! Sting of Death, my minaar is gone
Huh!steal my pain,I rely on a God
Nick of time, the clue for our views
Live a cause for all to dream and swim
My mother, my mother minaar to God
My mother, my mother Minaar I call
My mother, my mother Adieu in all.
May her Golden soul rest in perfect Peace.

She was a master communicator, and reached out to others with humility, humour and a true desire for co-operation - and of course all underpinned by her vast knowledge and passion for her chosen field of interest and study – Food Science.
She will be sorely missed by all who knew her and benefitted from her. In my personal capacity, and also on behalf of the South African Association of the Flavour & Fragrance Industry (SAAFFI), I extend my heartfelt condolences to Amanda’s family, colleagues and friends.
We will miss her enthusiastic, willing and capable involvement in our industry. Her positive and substantial contribution to the wider “Food Science World” remains as her legacy. May she rest in peace.
One time I remember I was so stuck and she asks me do you believe in God? I said yes, then she told me go pray God can do this and it went exactly well! She believed the best in everyone and her beautiful smile asking how is one doing made our days!
You will be dearly missed but we know God has called you home and you are peacefully resting in His arm. We thank God for you and the blessing you have been to many of us.

Thoughtful tribute by Tricia Fitchet from SAAFoST
It is with great sadness and regret that I have to inform you of the sudden and unexpected passing of our President, Prof Amanda Minnaar.
SAAFoST Congress delegates in Durban a few weeks ago would have noticed Amanda participating enthusiastically in the scientific programme and other events, banquet guests would have been witness to her proudly and excitedly assuming the office of SAAFoST President for the period 2015 – 2017 on the evening of 8 September.
Amanda has been a SAAFoST Member since graduating with a BSc from the University of Pretoria in the mid-eighties and in 1987, was awarded the Association’s most prestigious education award, the Koeppen Memorial Scholarship for academic excellence.
As a regular participant in SAAFoST events and congresses, as past chair of the Northern Branch, Chair of a Congress organising committee, Council member and most recently as President Elect and subsequently President of the Association, Amanda will be sorely and sincerely missed by fellow members and colleagues and we extend our deepest condolences to her family, friends and husband of thirty five years, Francois.
Chocolate for breakfast
One of my best memories of getting to know and work with Amanda was linked to chocolate. :-))
In my final year as a student, Amanda asked a bunch of us to come along on a trip to help out with a research project on avocado pears. I don't like avocado pears at all, but she made the trip sound so fun that I simply HAD to go. It was in Tzaneen and we were just a bunch or ladies. We had to "braai" our own meat etc. Such fun! And yes I worked with the avocado pears (and only years later told her how much I actualy dislike avocado pears). The morning we had to leave Tzaneen there was quite a bit of food left in the fridge and things we couldn't take back. everybody helped eat something out of the fridge. I volunteered to finish off the chocolate mouse and did so in record time!. She said she would always remeber me as the only person she knew who had chocolate mouse for breakfast. It was one of the stories she loved to share on our EU project trips when she introduced me to new people (to put me at ease as new people scare me bit). I always made sure on every trip we took together, that I maintained my chocolate-crazy reputation, just to amuze her :-)
