Amita: Bold and Beautiful

October 11, 2015

A midst of nowhere I could hear a ringing of viber, I just snatched my mobile – what’s up, Amitu? Why are you calling so early, is everything fine? No response…. Then, I realized that I was just dreaming. Maybe, this is something that I’ve been missing a lot. Time just flies, it has already been 45 days since our loving Amitu left us for forever.

No words can express how much I miss you Amitu – your call, your detail updates, your frustration, your eagerness, your energy everything. Had I known earlier, your urgency of taking such a short cut maybe, I would have fulfilled all your wishes.  You left all of us nowhere. Now, we can just cherish our memories and live with it.

Thinking of her youth – I always used to wonder where she would get all those energy and guts. In a high school, she was an average student. She used to tell me that she start imagining herself in the midst of a crowd singing like a Pop Star whenever, she opens a book. She was so crazy about songs and Bon Jovi was her favorite singer. Her reading desk and cupboard was full of his stickers and posters. She even used to say that she would like to have her own girl band.  Maybe, it was just a young fever as she didn’t go for it in reality.

However, she was very bold and straight forward. I remember, once she came home running –hustle and bustle.  I asked her - what happened? She told me that she had slapped one guy with her racket. Hence feeling insecure she ran fast. Poor guy! Didn’t know how bold my sister was. He made a mistake by teasing Amita and her friend while traveling together in a tempo. She controlled herself but finally couldn’t resist it. So, as soon as her stop came she just gave him a big spank and left.

Really, she was too bold. Can anyone imagine pulling nose of your own guest? Yes, she dares to do such mischief. Once, we (mom, Amita, Ram mama and myself) were just sitting and chatting at my mom’s room. It was a cold gloomy day. All of a sudden, one guy from a village came to meet our mom. I don’t remember his name but it’s still crystal clear to me that he had a prominent sharp and long nose. Mom was feeling lazy to greet him so, out of blue she told Amitu that she would give her money (can’t remember how much) if she would touch the guest’s nose.  For sure, my mom was just joking but my bold sister dashed outside towards living room where our guest was waiting for our mom. She made some excuses and pinched his nose then returned. We all were speechless.

On the other hand, she was very kind – could easily melt like butter. Once she visited me in a taxi and asked my maid to give a tea to a driver. I was bit puzzled – why tea for a taxi driver? Then she told me a story how she met him. Usually, this taxi used to park outside her house so she had ridden on it several time while going office. Once he asked her to give him a loan - few thousands. He told his story which she felt so bad. So, out of empathy she gave him a loan – such a big heart. I can’t imagine myself giving money to a stranger.

Maybe, you would have done more remarkable things for us to talk about but unfortunately, you just disappeared without letting us know. Hope we would meet again one day and continue sharing like we used to do before.

Memory of Amita as a child

October 6, 2015

"Call me" such a simple two words but deeply rooted in my heart. Yes, this was a last message from my dear Amitu which I couldn't response before she left us for forever.

Words can't express how loving and caring she was. She has been always dear and near to everybody that she knew. I remember my great grand mother saying " Amita, deuta Jastai Chha" when she was a baby. Now, I'm 100% convinced. She must be in a heaven looking after all human being.

As a baby, she was chobby and very cute. Neeta di and family used to call her "Boilar kukhura". Sita di (maid that looked after her) use to keep her in a round chair and ask her not to move anywhere. She obidiently listen to her - never moved around. Guests in our house were surprise to see her nature.

Once  she told me while she was studying in a primary school (Kanti Ishwori) that she bluffed her friends saying that she doesn't eat rice at home but eat other food like momo.. sandwich, pasta etc. Likewise, she insisted mom not to speak in Nepali when visiting her in the school because she again, told her friends that her mom just speaks in English with her. When asked any reasons-nothing. Really, a weird thoughts. All these sound funny but yet, sweet and hilarious when I remember now. I reminds me time and again, how unique she used to be from her childhood.
