Kirby Coach Again...

May 26, 2020
I got an an email the other day reminding me of the passing of a great friend. So, I visited the site once again and took a walk down memory lane. Andrea you were always so thoughtful and caring - quick to give even the simplest reminder of loyalty and trust. Your smile was infectious.
Fast forward ......I've been teaching; taking care of my family; raising my kids; coaching at the youth levels and playing some hockey myself. And just recently, almost 8 years since my last post, I was named the Assistant Girls Hockey Coach of the FIRST EVER Pine City Girls Hockey team. My buddy Bill and I will be leading a group of yound ladies that have grown together through the game of hockey. Not much has changed since 1999 and 2000 - except now, it'll be my own daughter on the ice and I can only hope she has the game sense of Tveit. The hard slapshot - like Tveit. The tenacity. The willingness to learn and the ability to always be a great teammate.... Andrea you are missed. Your smile is with me forever. I can't wait to tell these young Lady Dragon about you!
Sincerely,
Kirby Coach

Paula's pillow

Everyone knew that I really did not like feet and they also knew that I was very particular about my pillow.  Funny how they take a picture of my poor pillow sitting on the floor and all of there feet by it.

I find it funny when looking back at this picture how everyone in the picture has a dress except one person.  Surpise... it is Andrea :)  I sure am going to miss you.

So glad my son had the oppurtunity to meet you last summer Auni!  Your truly a Shining Star!

The Golden Girls

May 29, 2012

The first year of Roseau's Golden Girls hockey league will be one that I will cherish forever!  Skating every Sunday night with my [sister] was such an awesome experience and one that I will never forget.  We played on opposite sides, so it was fun to go against each other, stealing pucks and scoring goals - back and forth.

Toward the end of the season it was down to Andrea and me - and sometimes one or two more gals - so she decided she would put the pads on and let us shoot on her for a few weeks :)  ...it was the first time we had a goalie for the season and I was reminded how much fun that was!  I remember the first time she put the pads on - she discovered that there wasn't straps for the bottoms - so each dive she would have pads flying everywhere...back up she went for another shot.

Before every practice she would always wait for me to get there because she needed assistance with the top gear - I'm smiliing just thinking about looking over and seeing Andrea with her arms in the air, saying "ahh, Kayla...little help?!"

We were always excited to skate every week - there will certainly be a huge void without Andrea in the years to come :(    ... I'll be playing for you Andrea xoxo

My first chance to be called "Coach" and the ladies of the Bemidji Women's Club Hockey made it one of the most memorable times of my life.
If I could go back and open the Glas one more time, if I could have one more practice with a "hardest shot" competition or a drill dumping pucks into the corner against Dillon, If I could play one more shift with Andrea and the other gals in the Intramural League, If I could give one more locker room speech or make one more line change against teams from Grand Forks or Duluth, If I had one more chance to hear your voice and see your smile....
Andrea - you will forever be fondly remembered.
Keep your stick on the ice.
