My heart is breaking. I just learned this evening that a dear teacher & friend (Ann Wilson) is slipping away from us. I can't even begin to explain the depth of my love for this woman...she's the reason I became a teacher and the best example of loving people where they are at...of taking the time to listen to everyone because they all matter. I love you Ann and am praying you feel the Lord's comfort around you.   Ruth Lopez Miller

Mrs. Wilson's version of P-Diddy...LOL..shes amazing! The reason why I want to become a teacher!

Ruth Lopez Miller Ashley Shott did you hear?    Ashley Shott Yes I heard. My heart is completely broken, but if she's in pain she needs to be with God. She was truly amazing. The best teacher I know.   Vi Nguyen what happened?   Ruth Lopez Miller Vi , she's been sick for awhile now and things are getting progressively worse. From what I've gathered she doesn't have much time.    Kimberly Davis Oh my goodness.. she was such a wonderful teacher. She truly made math fun. I can only pray that God surrounds her in his love and comfort during her last days.   Ashley Gibbs I had no idea!!! She was such an inspiration to so many. I pray God comforts her in her last days. We love you Mrs. Wilson

Ann Wilson the things you have taught me through out the years will forever live with me. The classroom was just a start. I remember leaving Webster intermediate thinking how I would begin the next chapter without you andMichael Clinton Sloan. And you followed me all the way to graduation. I'll never forget that day. Not because I got to throw my cap In the air, but because you got to announce my name as I walked across that stage. You will always be a mentor to me and I love you for that. I pray you go in peace and you will forever live with us. ‪#‎wis‬ ‪#‎cbhs‬

Dustin Delsi Oh no. She was a sweetheart. She will be missed.   Brandon Slawson Sorry for your loss, bro.   Juli Johnston Morris My mom truly loved y'all.   Michael Clinton Sloan Ryan, Ms. Wilson was not only beloved by her students but also among her teacher peers. Some of you may recall that my classroom was next door to Ms. Wilson. There were many times at the end of a long day that I stopped by to tell her goodbye, and so often she was intently examining student papers spread out before her. I commented one time that, as many hours as she put into grading and analyzing papers, she might just as well sleep at school. She laughed, as usual, and continued her work. She was willing to go any distance to help her students. Ms. Wilson was a rare teacher.
Kelly Wilson Myers Ryan. Such a sweet sentiment for a beloved mentor from your past. Makes me remember all my teacher/mentors from my school days. I believe teaching is a calling and true teachers are a blessing to the kids who pass through their doors.   John Hare Oh my god I had no idea! She was absolutely my favorite teacher ever! I loved her so much and miss her with all my heart.

My awesome parents found this and I can't tell you guys how happy I am. Mrs. Wilson and I senior year:-) I can't express how much I miss this woman. I guess it's true that you never know how much someone means to you until they're gone. She meant the world to me. The day was good if I could hang out in her room in the morning and listen to her stories. I remember how happy she was that she got to teach the kiddos that she "followed" from Webster Intermediate to Clear Brook High School. I love you Mrs. Wilson, and I miss you so much!

Nicole Cosper Oh my! Did she pass? I had no idea... I was a terror in her class freshman year, but she always believed in me. Had her again my junior year, and took her a rose last day senior year to thank her for never giving up on me.   Mandy Wilkinson i love your hair and im sorry about Ms, Wilson.   Ashley Shott Yes, she passed a few days ago. I still can't believe she's gone. She was seriously the best.   Mandy Wilkinson Thats so sad:( Some people are beautiful inside and out and make such an impression on our lives.     Ashley Shott Mandy, this was over 10 years ago. Man, I wish I was still this thin lol!   Nicole Cosper Yes she was! I'm so sad to hear this...   Sharon Parker Trimble That is a great picture. I don't believe I have any pics of her. Worked with her at Webster and Brook - she was definitely one of the best!!

Ruth Lopez Miller February 20 at 12:38am · Instagram ·    Heaven gained an angel this morning...I remember hearing the many "ooofs" when kids would act up in class. I remember you walking out of the classroom to count to ten because you didn't want to do something you would regret. I remember you telling the story of how gullible you were when you were a kid(still laugh when I think of the story where you jumped of the stadium seats). I remember you keeping that ugly sweater in your class so we could use it when we got cold. I remember you taking a minute to come up with yet another way to attack a math problem just so that one kid would get it. We were going to get it no matter what. I remember coming early just to say hi and lingering behind to have just a little more time. I remember you telling me I was your hero...but the reality was you were mine. Thank you Mrs. Wilson for being a light. Thank you for showing what true love looks like. Thank you for crying with us and sharing our pains. Thank you for listening, for encouraging, and for believing in us at all costs. You are loved and will forever be in our memories and our hearts. — with Ann Wilson. She and I were telling Christina about that just a few weeks ago. I had a picture of mom with a cast on her arm....from that incident. Ruth Lopez Miller Yes Juli ! It was one of my favorite stories she would tell us...forever taught me to not believe everything so quickly.    Carolyn Tran Sorry for your loss. Praying for you and your family.   Sam Flippin I just heard the news. One of the first things I thought about when I saw her picture was "I wonder if that stadium fall story was true..." looks like it was! What an inspiring woman!

I usually post about the ridiculous sarcastic things I do with my students, but in honor of Ann Wilson, one of the best teachers I ever had passing, I'll be inspirational instead.

Today is the last day of the six weeks, of course I have the same kids as I always do begging and pleading in tutorials to bump their 30 to a 70, but one kid, they've been in tutorials every time the last two weeks just trying to get by. They studied their heart out for the last test and got a 40, failing for the 6 weeks. They then kept coming so that they may pass the retake. After 30 minutes today, they came up and handed in the test, completely blank.

Student: Coach I can't do it.
Me:Yes you can
Student: I suck at math, just let me fail.
Me: Go finish it.
Student: Tutorials are over, I failed. My parents don't care.
Me: Stop feeling sorry for yourself. I've seen you do the work, I've watched you. Yes it may take you longer, but it's in that head of yours. Everyone has let you quit, everyone has told you you suck at math. Stop believing them and start proving them wrong.
Student: but-
Me: You will sit and finish this test and you will get everything right or we'll sit here until class starts tomorrow morning trying.

1.5 hours later, after plenty of tears, all of those 18 questions were right.

Thomas Shide Awesome   Rhiannon Nichols I loved her! Great job with that student, she would be proud!   Ava Sneed Deyon That's really cool Jack   Cat Trevino-Loveless Awesome. That one person who believes in you can change your life forever.   Macy Sikes Oh jack I love this so much! You teachers make more of an impact than you will ever know.   Yvette LaMarche Culp That's an amazing story! Ann would love it. Thanks for sharing   Thomas Mattox Jack Davidson... if ur anything like Mrs. Wilson was as a teacher ... You will be the reason alot of kids make it to a career in life Math is the most important subject in school... by far handsdown... I salute a Pimp aka Teacher for providing these confused youngin with a edumacation... (miss spelled on purpose) don't grammar correct me HAHA   Addison Taylor Brown Ms. Wilson would be proud!   Katie Scopel That's exactly what she would do with her students as well!!!     Kris Clancy I am in shock that she passed. She was by far the BEST teacher I had at Brook who actually CARED about her students...
Candace Sullivan Silcott Thank you for letting me know about Mrs. Wilson, and thank you for encouraging that next generation to do the hard things.   Nicole Andrea Trivino Best thing I read today February 20 at 4:09am · Like Brittney Nicole Awesome!!!   Jennifer Lewis What an amazing teacher she was! The only math teacher I had who really taught me anything. And what a moving tribute    Donna Stone Jack, I'm really proud of you and am so thankful that you clearly became an inspirational teacher yourself.

August 1971....I love you mom. One of my favorite pictures. Always thought you looked so beautiful in this one. Not ready to say goodbye but I know Grammy and granddaddy. Hope as well as dad are waiting for you. When I see you again you'll be even more beautiful than in this picture. I promise to be strong for Christina and Jeff. Ms. Wilson, I haven't heard the latest on your condition, but these messages aren't painting a rosy picture. I just wanted you to know that you were an inspiration to me as a teacher at Webster. While the kids bellyached about the homework you assigned, they loved you. They knew it was necessary to practice. My classes got pretty loud at times -- and my voice would occasionally boom down the hallway -- but I always knew when your kids were in trouble. My classes even got quiet when they heard your infamous yardstick slapped down on a desk. My kids would roll their eyes and know they were in for a tough time when they reported to your class. But, one of my favorite memories occurred one afternoon when a student obviously crossed the line. I heard your door slam and the sound of shoes carrying this male student as fast as they would go. You came scurrying out of your classroom saying all sorts of unintelligible things, waving a broken yardstick as you gave chase. As best as I recall it, you said something about where the remnants of the yardstick would go if he didn't pay attention.
Your students loved and respected you. And you certainly were respected by your fellow professionals.
Godspeed, Ms. Wilson!

Stacey Campbell Omg! Mr. Sloan thank you so much for this story. It made me laugh through my tears. February 19 at 8:31pm · Like Brandon Lamp While reading this, I couldn't help but wonder whether this was me? I was always a handful for Ms. Wilson, but she spoke to me in a way that made me understand the consequences of my decisions and actions. No doubt, I am a better man today because of Ms. Wilson. February 19 at 9:12pm · Like · 4 Stacey Campbell Haha Brandon. I was just telling Andy the story about when she put you, Justin and me in a corner during study hall and you were literally climbing up the wall. Justin and me were both laughing and she was so pissed but when she looked over and saw what we were laughing at she started laughing herself. Lol. Then she put you in the hallway. February 19 at 9:16pm · Like · 2 Brandon Lamp Yeah, I remember this. I also remember a time where she made me go outside (literally) and watch class from an outside window because I was such a disruption. February 19 at 9:20pm · Like · 2 Stacey Campbell Lol. Sunrise

February 26, 2015

I've  been trying to watch the sunrise over Brook out of the classroom windows.  I remember each morning being in Ann's room and admiring God's amazing paintings and taking a moment to pray together every morning.  When I see the sunrises, I will always think of you dear friend.

February 23, 2015

I did not know Ann as well as I would have liked but I did have quite a few encounters with her. Quite frequently, we would be headed to our cars after school. We would end up chatting in the parking lot for quite some time. She was an amazing woman. We shared many similarities in our lives. No matter how I was feeling before I ran into Ann, I was always uplifted after. Her kindness, her wisdom, her sense of humor, her deep spirituality would always come through and inspire me. I'm sure she had no idea how deeply she touched my life and the positive influence she left with me.  I was so blessed to have run into Ann at MD Anderson a few weeks before her passing. I am so happy to have had one last encounter and one last hug from a truly amazing woman. She will be forever missed.

Oh to fly!

February 22, 2015

I remember this one time in class Mrs. Wilson was teaching us something about algebra. She was using the overhead projector to demonstrate her point and took her time to neatly write the problem. As she continued, she happened to graze her ear for some reason and just stopped. She put her pen down and thought out loud while wiggling her ears, "I've always thought it would be neat if I could fly with my ears..." LOL. We all giggled. After shrugging her shoulders and make a quick high pitched "pfft" sound she got us back on track with whatever we were learning. As I look back I think she shared those small thoughts to a)give us a mental break b)wake up the kid who stayed up too late the night before & c) just show us she's a human just like us and wanted to make a connection with us by sharing bits of her. Fly high darling!

Sundays

February 22, 2015

She's stop by after church on Sunday's and we'd spend a beautiful afternoon chatting.  We'd watch the hummingbirds outside on my patio.  The beautiful graceful hurons that she said were her mom, would visit my yard when she was there.  Duke loved her!  He always was so (OK way too) excited to see her.  I was very afraid that he was going to know her over.  Very special moments.

She was always there for you

February 22, 2015

I was having major surgery.  My parents came down from Pittsburgh to help me.  We get to the hospital at about 5:30 am and who is there waiting for us...Ann.  She goes and gets my parents coffee and they hang out with me until I go.  The surgery was supposed to be an hour and a half.  The surgery was five hours and I was in recovery for quite a while.  Ann stayed with my parents the entire time!  When I got home, she visited regularly and brought me homemade chicken soup.  During one of those visits, I set her up on Facebook.  That's where that beautiful cover picture was taken.  We tried several times to get the right picture.  I told her to think of her students, and Voila!

Pi Ditty Scores!

February 22, 2015

It's the Senior vs. Faculty basketball game.  I'm probably Lucy at this point.  Ann and I decide that we are going to be in the game, but certainly not play.  She asked me to get my son's Basketball gear.  She dons his shorts, headband, wristbands, and basketball shoes.  The shoes made her look like Minnie Mouse.   A student decided that we needed "number on our backs".  They gave me pi, but Mrs. Wilson HAD to be Pi Ditty.   Mandy Scott was refereeing the game.  I told her to call a foul on the seniors (when they really didn't foul) and then we'd sub Ann in for the free throw!  So, she did and up to the foul line goes Ann.  She does an underhanded throw and swoosh!  No net!  The crowd roared!  She came off the court and said, "You know that was God that made that shot."  Yup!  They were quite the team.

New Hip

February 22, 2015

I invision Ann dancing with Jesus, like she did when she got her new hip.  She would stand in the hallway with her yardstick and wiggle that new hip.

The Elevator

February 22, 2015

Gary, Ann and I called ourselves the "Old-timers".  We'd find ourselves doing things in a group.  One day we were leaving for the day.  We got on the elevator.  We were so caught up in talking.  We realized after about 10 minutes that we weren't moving.  Not one of us had pressed the button to move, and not one of noticed.  :)

My best friend

February 22, 2015

My words won't even begin to encompass what a special friend Ann Wilson was to me.   We always were thinking up some hairbrained idea.  She said we were Lucy and Ethel and would take turns on who was Lucy and who was Ethel based on who's idea it was.  She loved everyone she met.  Her students were her life!  Her family was her heart.  Her Christina was her podmate ~ they were two peas in a pod.  She loved each person that God blessed to put in her path.  Her spiritual example was unexplicable.  God was her strength, her guide, her all.  He helped straighten her up, put her back on her feet and ready to touch yet another life.  What an inspiraton she was to us all!  I will miss you sweet lady!!!
