This memorial website was created in memory of our dear son, brother, and uncle, Arturo “Art” Jimenez, 54. He has returned to his heavenly home on Friday, June 23rd, 2017 after a valiant battle with illness.

Arturo was born to Estanislado “Stanley” and Lucia “Lucy” Jimenez , in Laredo, Texas on June 6th, 1963. He graduated from Nixon High School with honors in 1981 and subsequently graduated from the University of Texas at San Antonio with a Bachelor of Science in Biology in 1986. In 1995, Arturo received his teacher certification from Texas A&M International University.

Arturo was a well-respected educator for 22 years at George Washington Middle School where he was awarded multiple Golden Apple Awards. He was also considered to be, “the best summer camp instructor” at Lamar Bruni Vergara Environmental Science Center where he taught campers the value of our environment and the wildlife we share it with for 12 years.

He had a passion for nature and a passion to teach, and always seemed to put others before himself.

Arturo is remembered as a gentle and kind soul who’s mission in life was to educate, help and inspire others, a curious man who never ceased the opportunity to appreciate the little things in life that many of us take for granted and a steward of nature. He enjoyed reading, traveling the world, watching live music, attending sporting events, gardening and astronomy but his true passion was in the outdoors. He was an avid hiker, kayaker, bird watcher and overall explorer of nature and enjoyed sharing the experiences with others.

Arturo is survived by his parents, Estanislado and Lucia Jimenez; his sister Belinda Jimenez, his brothers Rolando and David Jimenez, his nieces Krystal, Victoria, Zoe and Evie, and his sister-in-laws, Erika and Heather. He is preceded in death by his brothers Javier and Michael Jimenez.

He was so loved by his family, friends and his students, and he will be greatly missed.
