Pet Rooster

April 16, 2016

When I was a little girl my grandma was the BEST story teller in the world. It was from her where I learnt how to tell a great story and how to cherish memories.

She was a firm believer in seeing the world (glass) half full - and I aspire to have just some of her optomism.

This is the story of her pet rooster.

When Audrey was a little girl growing up in the 'Dirty Thirties' in Ontario, Canada times were tough. Her parents, who had come to Canada from England did their best to put food on the table for Audrey, her sisters, and her brother Bruce.

Well - as food became more and more scarce Audrey grew concerned. She started to see that her pet Rooster was in danger of becoming dinner.

Audrey did what she could to keep her Rooster save. After playing with him, building memories with him, and having him sit on her shoulder and follow her around she was NOT prepared to let him go.

One day her parents had other ideas, and allas Audrey was sad to find her Pet Rooster on the dinner table. Well, a Nobel young lady she was, she refued to eat her pet rooster, so while the family partake in the only meal they could find - Audrey remained loyal (and hungry) right to the end of poor old rooster's life.

That was who Audrey was right until the day she died, a loving, fiercly loyal person - and while we miss her, we are sure she's dancing with dad, laughing with Amy, hugging her parents, helping care for Maddy, and playing with her Pet rooster.
