She Came a Day Early and Saved Us!

November 18, 2023
My mom, Barbara, had the best intuitive and psychic senses. She knew and could sense everything. When I was around 16, probably in 1972, my best friend, Claudia, convinced a group of us to go camping at the river (Colorado River). My brother, David, our friend, Ralph, Claudia, and I packed up sleeping bags, a tent, food and supplies for the trip. My mom drove us all the way there in her VW van and dropped us off, planning to come pick us up in 5 days. It was nice there when we first arrived, and not too many people. We put up our tent and established our camp site.

The next day and days after, tons of people came and it turned into a giant party. People set up music playing through giant speakers and were smoking pot everywhere. Then the Hells Angels arrived up on a hill about a mile away. It got really crazy, wild, and sometimes scary.

On day 4 the police arrived in the morning and told everyone to leave. They started busting some people and throwing them into police vans. We packed up everything, but didn't have a way to get home. My mom was not scheduled to arrive until the next day. Then out of nowhere, a day early, my mom drove up in her blue VW van! There were no cell phones back then and not even a pay phone nearby. She said she knew she just had to come get us early.

Counselor and Friend

I met Barbara in a Fullerton bookstore.  She was my therapist and and friend for nearly three years.  She taught me so much about love.  I'll miss her wonderful smile and beautiful spirit, and especially her unfailing kindness.  I also remember how she glowed when talking about Theresa and 'Baby do it' Kasen.

I'm so fortunate to have had her in my life.  Thanks to Theresa for creating this memorial.

I cant remember what year we first met, but i must have been around 14.You lived in a apartment right down the street from the home i grew up in on Ash Avenue in Fullerton.Your apartment was really cool with a purple accent wall in the ballroom, with a Donovan poster hanging on the wall. The bedrooms also had one wall painted in great color with art work everywhere that David & Theresa made.I also remember the VW bus.I dont think it went over 55, but it got us around! When i felt i couldnt talk to my Mom about things I could always talk to you.You always told me to protect and stand up for myself. The free clinic you volunteered at was the first time going to get a Women's exam and i wasnt afraid because you and Thersa were there for me.It was also the first time I was taught women's power. We all voted for Jerry Brown, went to sit-ins at the college, and all danced to the Michael Jackson album ABC in the living room.I was so glad you where there to guide us.We also went to rap sessions together that I will never forget.Everything we did was accepted and never judged by you...You were always interested in what we were doing and all of us were creative in different ways..Theresa, David, Ralph, Claudia, & i rode to school every day, and when we got home from school we would always move all the furniture around to make it look different all the time. You had want to be interior designers on your hands!..You always seemed so happy and loved to have me around even when you had alot on your plate, whichI really appreciated...I  have so many wonderful memories of you! Love,Jan
