8 years Yartzeit gathering

November 30, 2023
A group of Batya's friends in Melbourne gathered on her Yartzeit (anniversary of passing) to share songs and recollections of her life.  We sang her favorite, "L'ma'an achai v're'ay", "For the sake of my brothers and friends..." Psalms 122. And others including "Eishet Chayil", "Woman of Valor" from Song of Songs.  This was a very special evening igniting our fond memories of Batya, sharing with each other the diverse interests and activities in her life.  May her memory be a blessing.

So it's been 8 years, still very sad to me.  I still have her phone number on my phone. I still have her last years of emails on my computer.  Every now and then I'll reread some of her messages.  Somehow this keeps her close to me.

I am so sad. I’ve not contacted Batya since May 2015. At time she said she had been very sick, but was getting better. Today I tried to phone her to tell her I was thinking of visiting Israel, no answer, then I found this site and discovered that I’d lost my friend.

Sue, Batya, was known to me first when I met her in 1976 in Perth WA. I knew her then as “Lady”. We were close for a while, in fact I was very close,... behind her tearing around Perth on her motorcycle. After moving to TASMANIA and getting married in 1978 we lost touch a bit, but my wife and I visited her in St.Kilda a few times.

I shall miss her greatly and remember her as a dear friend over nearly five decades.

This is the tea cozy Batya knitted for me.  It is a prized possession.  Isis likes it, too.
