I remember little Beau...

July 2, 2012
During times of grief we often forget the moments in our lives when we laughed much and often. However, after a time of mourning God allows sweet memories to return to comfort us and warm our hearts. When I received the email from my Sister announcing the Memorial Page for my recently deceased nephew, Beau Wheeler, I was not ready to relive the memories of our life when we all were first married and had very young children. Our young lives were active, troubled, busy, and all the rest of the words that describe young couples today. The difference in our lives was that there was so much laughter. Looking back, even problems have their lighter moments and when an opportunity to laugh or make fun of a situation or a relative, we never let an opportunity pass. We were only poor in money.   My sister, Carolyn was the proud Mother of one handsome young man, Beau, in those days. Later on her other handsome son, Christian was born. She and Wayne lived at apartments behind the Steak & Ale Restaurant off Sherwood Boulevard. It was a beautiful place. The complex surrounded a large swimming pool with lovely gardens and palm and banana trees everywhere. Just entering the shady pool area was instant relaxation for a weary new Mom. Wayne and Carolyn were great parents and totally proud of their small tan baby boy. I say tan because Beau loved being in the pool. He swam like a dolphin at an early age before he even started elementary school. Sister and I loved to see him come out of the apartment, shut the door and head straight to the deep in of the pool. His focus was on the diving board and we quietly watched as other tenants and guests gasped to see the small boy dive in head first and not come up immediately. As fine Southern women do, they swooned and screamed as he showed up at the opposite end of the pool having swum the length of it. Wayne or Carolyn would often be standing at the shallow end to help him up so he could run back and do it over and over for hours. He would hold up his tiny hand and grin at all the staring adults who could not believe their eyes while his Dad would say, “Good job, son!” We thought it was wonderful. Last year on June 26, 2011, Beau swam again. Tired and weary he went toward his Savior, Jesus who stood with his earthly father, Wayne with their hands outstretched to grab him into Heaven. I feel in my spirit that they both shouted, “Good job, son!” I miss you Beau. God bless you Tristyn and Carolyn.

Buffed up Beau

Here is a picture of Beau when he was working out with a high school friend of his who was lifting weights for the Olympics.  He was so happy, healthy, and young- the way I love to remember him.
