Mrs. Martha Elizabeth “Bettye” Johnson Miller passed away on Tuesday, April 15, 2014 in Franklin GA.

Bettye was born in Rome, Georgia on January 29, 1917 to Hugh and Mary Eleanor Moore Johnson. She graduated from Shorter College in 1938 majoring in History. After a brief career in teaching, she moved to Atlanta where she worked and traveled for American Mutual Insurance for many years. Later she became Personnel Director at Piedmont Hospital until her retirement. In 1973, she married Walter Howard Miller and they shared a home in Atlanta for many years before his death in 1995.

A dedicated professional woman, Bettye was a member of and held offices in both The United Daughters of the Confederacy and the Atlanta Pilot Club. She enjoyed her membership in the Blackland Gardening Club and was active at Northside United Methodist Church until her health began to fail.

She was preceded in death by her husband Walter Howard Miller and is survived by step-daughter Eleanor Miller Smith (Alan) of Florida, sisters-in-law Ernestine Miller and Imogene Bell of Franklin GA, nephews Thomas Miller (Judy) and Wayne Miller (Carolyn) of Franklin GA, Harold Miller (Cindy) of Opelika AL, nine great nieces and nephews and 11 great-great nieces and nephews.
