Bettye Jean Render was born March 27, 1935 in Hogansville, Georgia. She transitioned this life March 26, 2016 surrounded by her family. Bettye was preceded in death by her mother Mary Frances Lane and step-father Jessie Lane; her brothers, James and John Lane; her sister, Irene McClain; her aunt, Fronie Mae Gaulding; her uncle, Julius Gaulding; and her niece, Tiffany Harmon.

She was a lifelong member of St. Mary United Methodist Church where she actively participated in many organizations and served in a number of leadership positions including Older Adult Ministries, Young Adult Ministries, Usher Board, coordinator Vacation Bible School and Christian Education.

Bettye possessed a special gift for coordinating and planning successful programs and events annually including St. Mary U.M.C. Church Anniversary, Men and Women’s Day, Revival and Homecoming services. She coordinated many successful building improvement fund-raisers and secured grant funding to establish a Health and Wellness Program for the church and Hogansville community.

Bettye received her bachelor’s degree from Savannah State College and her master’s degree from Atlanta University Center. She taught for thirty two years in the Hogansville, Georgia School System. Bettye was recognized many times for excellence in teaching and awarded “Teacher of the Year” recognition.

Bettye leaves to cherish her memory; sisters, Aquanella Lane, Houston, TX; Kay Lane Woodson (Lou) Conyers, GA; Dr. Rebecca Harmon (Dan) Louisville, KY; brother, Donald Lane (Lillian) Denver, CO; nieces, Jennifer McClain (Riverdale, GA), Jessica Woodson (Auburn, AL), Dr. Ashley Harmon (Washington, D.C.);nephew, Nicholas Woodson (Atlanta, GA); and a host of cousins, other family members and dearest friends.
