His Life
March 17, 2012

Cause of Death: Carter was killed after a two-story house's second floor collapsed, only two other Firefighters were injured in the incident.

Blake Michael Carter, a firefighter with the Department of Third District, Metairie LA, passed away in the "Line of Duty" on March 3, 2012 as the result of a house fire. Blake was upstairs in a two story apartment building when the floor collapsed. Blake was pronounced dead at 2:40am.

His parents, Kevin and Britney Carter abandoned Blake and his two siblings when he was only 10 years old. When he was 15 he started using drugs but changed his life around when he turned 19 because his ex girlfriend gave birth to his daughter named Sarah. Sadly his daughter passed away when she was only 5 years old due to lung cancer.

Blake worked as a mechanic for 6 years then was offered a job as a paid call firefighter at Station 34. He completed his training at station 32 and became a full time fire fighter at station 34, engine 344. Right before his death, Blake was about to graduate to Firefighter II.

Blake always had a strong passion for cage fighting, which helped his strength and many skills as a firefighter. Blake's first cage fight was when he was 15 years old. He continued cage fighting till he was in a bad car accident on June 3, 2011. Blake was at his work when he was suppose to test drive a 1998 black corvette that was having brake problems. He drove in down the highway, where a drunk 18 wheeler driver drifted onto the wrong side of the road in which Blake couldn't stop due to the car problems, causing a head-on collision. Blake was pronounced dead for 3 and a half minutes. Thankfully, the medical technicians on the scene preformed C.P.R. which restarted his heart, but he was left in a comma for approximately 3 days afterward.

Blake was a giving person. Helping others, regardless of their need, was an integral part of his personality. He had another side too. He was fun to be with and could bring a smile to your face, if not outright laughter, in even the most difficult of times. Words cannot express the joy that Blake brought to all of those that he met. Blake was a loving son, father, brother, and friend. He was all of our friend. Blake was a dedicated Firefighter who had many talents in structural firefighting. He was well respected by all members of the firefighting family and all who knew him. Blake will be greatly missed.
