My Favorite Memories of Grandpa

February 22, 2016

One of my favorite memories of my grandpa was when I was younger and he would take me out for breakfast, just the two of us. We would go to this little diner in Lockport and apparently one time when he dropped me off at my parent's house after, he said to them "boy, she sure likes bacon!" And yes, I do!

Another thing I loved doing with my grandpa was go-karting. Our family would often go when we were all together in Tennessee. He would drive and I'd be sitting next to him pretending to steer, although he was actually doing the steering. We have this on video, and I always get a laugh when watching him buzz us around the track.

One time I asked my grandpa what his favorite meal of the day was, breakfast, lunch, or dinner. His response? "Ice Cream."

Another great memory with my grandpa was when he was working at Dollywood, specifically at the bumper cars or when he would drive the trolley into the park. We would be visiting from Lockport and enjoying our visit at Dollywood, and he would use the loudspeaker to tell everyone that his granddaughters were on the ride, announcing us using our nicknames that he gave us, "Smelly Melly" (my sister) and "Dude" (me). Although we would act embarrassed, we loved it. He always knew how to make us laugh and feel special.

I miss my grandpa every day, but I know I am lucky to have such great memories of him. From his jokes, to his dance moves, to his prayers before dinner, he was great at so many things and truly showed our family how to love one another.
