Biographical Sketch

Mama Bridget Evuleocha was born on February 15, 1937 to Peter & Julia Anyanwu. She was the youngest of three children. 

Mama attended Holy Rosary School Oparanadim I. Her cohort in primary school was the first to take the external Standard Six Exam in 1956.  Mama was one of three students out of a class of 36 students who placed second in the exam. In 1957, she was offered a teaching appointment following her brilliant performance in the exam. She sat for and passed the entrance exam for a two year teacher training course after teaching for one year. Mama attended the Immaculate Heart Teacher Training College, Umuokirika and received her Grade III Certificate. 

Upon graduation from the Teacher Training College in 1960, mama taught for one year before her marriage to Chief Steve Evuleocha in 1962.  Mama's marriage was blessed with six (6) children: two boys and four girls. Shortly after her marriage, mama was posted to Aba where her husband worked, and she would teach at St. Joseph's College Practicing School for one year.

Subsequently, mama relocated to Lagos with her husband, and would teach at Our Lady of Fatimah Primary School until the civil war broke out in 1967 and the family relocated  back to the East, and mama was posted to the Local Authority Primary School in Ihitteafukwu. When the war ended and the family moved to Enugu, mama taught at the New Haven Primary School and the Women Training College Practicing School in Enugu.

In 1976, mama decided to further her education. She attended the Holy Rosary College, Enugu where she obtained her Higher Elementary Education Certificate in 1980. Mama taught at the Alvan Ikeoku College of Education Practicing School for one year, after which she attended the Alvan Ikeoku College of Education for three years and obtained the Nigerian Certificate  in Education in 1983. Mama was posted to the Government Trade Center in Owerri, and then to Government College in Owerri.

In 1990, mama was accepted to read English Language at the University of Nigeria Nsukka from where she graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in 1993. Upon graduation, mama was posted to the Inspectorate Division of the  Ministry of  Education, where she was appointed to the School’s Board of Education, and worked  as Supervisor of Secondary Schools  until she retired in 1997. Following her retirement in 1997, mama was a consultant  at the Startright Childhood Learning & Development School as a Monitoring Officer. 

Mama loved sports, music, reading  and spending time with her family.
