His Life

Byron Joseph "Barney" Cadle, 80, son of Henry and Viola Cole Cadle, was born Nov. 4, 1922, at Kennett. He died March 29, 2003, at Phelps County Regional Medical Center at Rolla. Mr. Cadle moved to the Licking area in 1932.

During World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy Seabees and was stationed in the American Samoan Islands. Following his military service, he farmed the family farm east of Licking. He later owned a service station at Licking. He established a heating and air conditioning business at Licking and worked at Fort Leonard Wood as a HVAC specialist until his retirement from Civil Service in 1978.

He joined the Montauk Baptist Church in 1983. He loved to help others and opened his shop and equipment to neighbors and area farmers to help in any way he could. He will be remembered for his jokes, stories and songs that entertained children and adults alike.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Velma Irene Holland Cadle; his parents; three brothers, Raymond, Robert and Jessie Cadle; eight sisters, Ollie Mae Cadle, Louise Hagler, Effie "Eva" Campbell, Maggie "Peggy" Lyles, Mary Thompson, Mattie Psalmonds, Annie Psalmonds and Nettie Thompson; one grandson and one great-grandson.

Surviving are his children, Bonnie Berry of Sterling Heights, Mich., Benita Cavaness of Robertsville, Joe Cadle and Jean Grover of Licking and Brenda McGowen of Houston; one sister, Helen Stephenson of Kalamazoo, Mich.; 13 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. Services were April 1 at the Fox Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Steve Floyd and the Rev. Brock Davis officiating. Burial was in the Patterson Cemetery.
