Punching At Thin Air!

March 4, 2015

I too first met Carla in the seventh grade.  She befriended me because I was new and most everyone else had grown up together. But she had that smile on her face that looking back was ALWAYs there even if she was sad.  I have a few stories but I DARE not tell them.  This I will tell.  She invited all of us to meet at her house early one morning just so her mom would drive us to school.  Well her mom was getting dressed for work when we got there and when she ran from the back of the house to the kitchen she was yelling out to Carla to hurry and get in the car were late.  When her mom reached the kitchen door she stopped still and looked at all us seven in all,  she said whee the...where did all of them come from and why are they here... Carla said I told them you would give them a ride to school.  She said well how did they all get here, and in unisome we said we road the school bus here.   Carla's mom just started shaking her head, and screamed GET IN THE CAR ALLOF YOU....NOW...I have to get to WORK.... as everybody was running her mom looked back over her shoulder and said we will talk about this later.  Carla looked back over her shoulder at us, the line of people following her and started laughing....

The next week.  Carla became a school bus driver (I don't know why that happened)  But all the kids on the bus were loud and fighting and she was screaming back at them to sit down and shut up...  One kept mouthing off at her so she said she was gonna kick their butt....They dared her so she said ok...kspt driving down the highway and giving them the evil eye in the mirror.   so the mouthy one kept mouthing off untill suddenly Carla pulled the bus off the road and backed it up.  We were all confused about what she was doing...  She turned off the engine and told The mouthy one to come on she was gonna kick her butt but not on the bus...  Carla yellled out to her I know Karate and this scared the girl who was four times Carla's size.  I was prepared to help her but I didn't have to .Carla and the other girl were throwing punches and kicks that never landed anywhere because they were half fighting and half running from each other.  Carla because the other girl was so BIG, and the other girl because Carla told her she knew KARATE.  I was sitting in the drivers seat laughing so hard with tears running down my face...They got back on the bus and called it a draw.  I said we better get this bus out of these peoples driveway before they call somebody... and she looked up at me laughing and said thats my house, and my driveway.....  I will never forget that scene...

My Mother is My Mother
I wouldnt ask for another
a million other mothers
caint compare to My Mother
a Sister Daughter Wife grandmother
and a friend to others.......My Mother.

She lived life by the pool....
She lived life by her rules...
She might of made em up as she'd go...
but she is the Mother though....
She turns up the music loud,
 lays back and floats around..
She has the man of her dreams
bringing her things.....she chose a great man.....
she would call all her friends by
and have a real good time......
she lived her life by the pool.....

i probly gave her some nightmares and gave her some grey hairs
cause she didnt know where i was....... here or there
would check for me in jail, but NEVER would post bail......thank you ma....
would know if i told tales and made us both inhale....
she told me to get out, she told me get back here,
she told me to kick ass, she told me to speak clear....
she told me to dress right, she told me that im white...

she ask me whats wrong, she knows when i sound sad,
she asks me if ive heard from my brother, sister or dad..
i wanna travel with the kids and show you they getting big
but you know how it is......           .............. smh...........

Last Christmas, Mama cooked the worlds most delicious dinner which included ALL of Joe's favorite dishes! She insisted that we take a ton of it home and we did. Didn't have to cook for an entire week! Never would let me help her clean up and I know she was exhausted after All that work. She always took are of us. I couldn't ask for a better mother-in-law.

Friendship

February 28, 2015

I got to know Carla best sometime in 7th grade. Being a very shy person people mistook that for being a snob which I wasn't. There were some girls who were being mean to me (today I guess you would call it being bullied).  One day Carla stepped up and told them if they wanted to fight someone they would have to fight her!  We really didn't know each other that we'll then and she stood up for me. I never forgot that and we remained friends throughout junior high, high school and after.  While not close friends it was always good to hear news from someone and I was glad to be able to be friends with her on FB.   I worried and prayed with her about her continuing health problems but I know she now walks the streets of gold with our Heavenly Father. Rest easy my friend until we can meet again.

WinterJam 2011

February 28, 2015

My mom and Marty joined me at winterjam 2011 in Jacksonville. It was the first- (and last ) time that I worshipped the Lord beside my mom. It was amazing. Treasured now.

I have many, many stories of Carla but here are two of my most favorite ones:

I was so excited when Carla first got her ear piercing gun. I wanted my ears pierced for the second time so bad but I knew my mother would never allow it. Carla said, "Let me try...."  She convinced my mom to say yes and the next thing I know is that she was sitting on the couch and I was on the floor, getting the spacing and alignment right on my ears. Carla got her gun steady on my left ear and then hesitated. I saw it in her eyes, she got nervous. I put my hand on her knee and told her to just do it. She smiled and did it. She did a better job than the first ones!

This story sticks with me and suppose it always will. I know it sounds silly but, it's the little things that count sometimes. Julie and I were getting ready to go to the skating rink. I was doing my makeup when Carla walked by the door. She said, "Can I show you something, Melinda?" I said sure. She put mascara on the eye I hadn't done yet and said,"See the difference? You were just getting the tips. If you do it like this, you get the whole lash."  She was right. I hear her say that every time I put mascara on. "Do it like this".

Ok, one more: after Julie had Tyler and I had Jamey, Carla came over and we got a chance to talk. She told me how worried she was about us having children so young, especially after the way we told her we were both expecting. (We kind of dropped a brick on her with that information.) Then she said, "But you both are doing such a good job being moms. I'm not worried anymore."

I have plenty of memories with Carla. I met her when I was 11 and got to know her as an adult, too. I wish her peace and know she is enjoying the eternal happiness she is a part of now.
