It did not seem like you are gone from us, when we came together on yesterday . It felt as if you were in the house just in another room just not saying much, as we laugh and enjoyed the family game day . It has been a year longer than I want to remember. The love you shared and invested in the family is still stronger than ever.  I truly appreciate the way you raise your children to love and support each other. You truly taught us to value the life we have as family and with an unselfish love, which you shared.  Your love had no expectation and required nothing in return. I could not have wanted any more than that in a mother-in love laws You were my example of what I aspire to be in my building a family extensions. The love you gave us still radiates in the family as a matter of fact we are even closer. We will always remember you and what we learn from you.

We were blessed by Carnie Scates. It wasn't just her beauty, her smile which we will forever remember, but her forthrightness, her honesty, her kindness and love for those she loved as well as for strangers. She was truly a remarkable woman and we were impressed with the love she clearly showed for her family who clearly loved and greatly admired her in return.
Again, God has blessed us with the rich, lovable and true person we knew in Carnie Scates. She will be missed of course and yet to have known her leaves us better than we were.
God be with her children and loved ones in her absence.

To Toni and the Scates Family,
Hold on to every heartfelt memory of your dear mother, wife and grand mother for comfort, surround yourself with close friends and loving family for strength, and never forget how much you meant to her.

We pray the love of God comforts each of you completely during your difficult times and that He helps you heal with the passage of time.
We rest in knowing with absolute confidence that Mother Carnie rejoices in heaven seated with our creator. Take comfort in knowing that someone so special to each of us will forever be present in our hearts and mind. We love you and lift you on high to our lord and savior, Jesus Christ.
Sincerely,

Karen & Oscar Battle

Aunt Connie was a remarkable and beautiful woman. I loved her demeanor and loving ways. Though I didnt hang out with her as much as I should she always received me with open arms and unconditional love. God bless my cousins cause I know the journey of seeing your Mom leave and go on to the Kings table. Praise the Lord that she is in glory cause she earned her crown. May God brighten your days. Blessings to all. Audrey Scates Spencer

It's hard to put into words how much you have influenced not only my life but the lives of our family. You taught me to treat others the way I wanted to be treated. I will miss your smile and the sound of your sweet voice but your love and spirit will forever live on through all the lives you have shaped. I know you are truly blessed and now at rest with the lord. "Rest in peace".

My "Second Mom"- so beautiful on the inside as well as the outside. I always admired her creativity. Most of all, she was an awesome woman of God. What an amazing legacy left for Toni and all of her beautiful granddaughters. ❤️

Acts of Kindness in a time of Sorrow

January 25, 2016

I will never forget mother Scates kindness on one of many Thanksgiving Day seasons.  I had not known her very long and was in the early stages of dating her son Audrey. November 4,  My son, 21 yrs old died of  heart failure from a transplate heart he recieved at 11yrs old.  That November was the hardest holiday to enjoy.  We were in grief when  mom ask us over for Thanksgiving Dinner. I had no desire to share, fellowship or to eat  at that time, I was so overtaken by his sudden death, but I went to the dinner.

I arrived at the house only to find that no one else had been invited but my family and mom cooked a delicious meal for just us . She  served me  with kindness and brought out her best table settings. She embraced me with gentle and comforting  words as a mother who was hurting for her own .  All I could think about was she cancelled her traditional Thanksgiving dinner with her large family just for me and mine, yet  only I and Audrey were the only ones  there . She let me know that she understood my children not coming  and that in her home was not just us ,but   the love of Jesus Christ and his angels there dining  with us, in a time of grief and heaviness . She put my family before her own family tradtions and it was truly an Act of KINDNESS to be remembered, with many other memories.:

Like the time she volunteered go with me to find  for my daughter's first prom dress and in her 70's out walked me in the downtown streets called " Garment District" to find the right dress for my daughter.  I was tired but Mom was strong and never got tired until we found the right one . I have to say she had good taste and knew what was fitiing for the occassions  at all times . Thanks mom for all you shared with me

Honesty Lessons

January 21, 2016

I'll never forget the time that I decided I wanted a pack of cards from Safeway. Mom had already told me to put them back, but I felt like I should still have them, so I slipped them in my pocket. When we got to the car, I pulled them out while she loaded the groceries into the car. When she got in the car, she didn't yell! She calmly told me to pack up the cards. We walked in the store......I had to tell the manager that I had taken them, and that I was sorry! Needless to say I was sooooo embarrassed, but I never stole again.
