Her Life
January 21, 2016

Carnie  Scates  was born on May 17, 1929 to her loving parents, Howard and Rosena Partick, in Murfreesboro, Tennessee.  Carnie was such an unusual name, but  her mother liked it. One of ten children, Carnie had two sisters, Carrie and Lillian and seven brothers, Thomas, Zachariah, Roscoe, Richard, Clifford, Luther, and Howard.

When Carnie was six years old, her family moved to Nashville, Tennessee. When she was twelve years old, Carnie accepted Christ and attended Gordon Chapel Methodist Church. Educated in Nashville, she graduated from Pearl High School in June 1947. She continued her education at Tennessee State where she studied home economics and business.

In 1949 she married Manuel Scates. They traveled extensively due to the military, finally settling in Inglewood, California.  The union brought five beautiful children; four boys and one girl. They were later blessed with ten grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

Carnie loved the Lord and was committed to her faith. She lost her battle to kidney cancer but endured in her faith until the end. She was encouraged greatly by many scriptures, Psalm 136, Psalm 91 and Psalm 23.
