Mrs. Carrie E. Porter Ruggs, 87, of Columbus passed away Saturday at the Midtown Medical Center.

The daughter of the late Roy and Estella Cook Porter, Mrs. Ruggs was born in Gadsden, AL on July 15, 1926. She had been a faithful and devoted member of the Mt. Pilgrim Baptist Church since 1962 where she served faithfully as a Deaconess, Youth Director, Choir member and as den mother for the Cub Scouts. She was a very proud grandmother and great grandmother who loved cooking, counseling and giving love to her family and friends. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, MSG (Ret) Roosevelt Ruggs, Sr., and four brothers, Eugene, Roy, Alvin and Garfield Porter.

She leaves to cherished her memories, two sons, Roosevelt Ruggs (Amanda) and Kenneth Ruggs; two daughters, Peggy Henry (Clayton) and Carol C. McMillar (Charlie); seven grandchildren, Shondalyn “Peaches” Richardson, Tanya Dixon, Roosevelt “Trey Ruggs III, Kimerro Ruggs, Eboni Henry, Tazrha and Zabrie McMillar; one great grandchild, Zamira Rose McMillar; three brothers, Calvin Porter (Mary), Leon Porter (Lola), and Donald Porter (Dorothy); two sisters, Jessie M. Hardaway and Elmira Davenport; loving in-laws, Beatrice Porter, Bethena Porter, Darnell Abner, Cordelia Quincy (Cornelius) and Gloria Ruggs; her god children, Renee Holmes (Marc), Austin Gant (Erika) and Alexzandrea Gant; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
