We were blessed to care for Casey and his family; it was an honor to bear witness to the power of this devoted, loving family. Casey was empowered by his family as he followed his predestined journey that leaves them without him far too soon. The intensity, faithfulness, and fierceness of your love and devotion undoubtedly forever known by Casey, will long be remembered by our PICU staff.

Although I only had the opportunity to meet Casey and your family briefly, you are a family that I will always remember. Casey had a loving and vivacious spirit, and it was always apparent that you (Kathleen and Cornel) would do whatever you could to help him. I admire the support you provided to your son throughout his life. Casey will always be remembered fondly. You are in my prayers

What the Kaeding family will remember about Casey was his cheerful spirit. We can see him riding his bike around the circle ahead of the rest of you, and yelling back "come on". Racing Cornel on his bike. Also the 1st Thanksgiving you had in Columbus with our family. Casey was so full of energy and life. He was a gift to all that knew him. Wrap yourselves with happy memories. Peace to you.

Our special neighbor

October 16, 2013
We will remember Casey as someone who found joy in the little things in life. He was fun to be around and his enthusiasm was contagious. We have fond memories of him zooming around the block on his bike, trick-or-treating, playing around at the bus stop, and sneaking a salamander into school in his backpack!  Casey possessed a combination of innocence and orneriness that was easy to love. His perseverance and resilience throughout his illness is an inspiration for all of us. We will miss our friend and neighbor, Casey. He was truly special. The Galloway family

The Best of Parents!

October 11, 2013

I remember meeting the Van Grop family soon after Casey's diagnosis.  As hard as the initial shock was to the family, in that moment I saw Kathleen and Cornell putting Casey's needs a head of their own.  They worked very hard to do everything possible to keep Casey happy and to see to it that his every need was met.  They would listen to him.  Challenge him to do school work.  Speak tenderly to him and help him to know that he was loved.  Never did a day go by without one of them being there by Casey's side.  And while they were here with Casey, both parents would interface with the medical team in order to follow his treatment plan and give their point of view as to what should happen in the care of Casey.  This continued throughout Casey's battle with cancer.

From the outside looking in, I saw your love for your son Casey each every day while you were here.  And, you know, I believe that Casey felt it throughout his life's journey.  I grieve with you guy.  And I want to thank you for loving Casey so well and supporting him as he strove to live with cancer.  You are the best of parents to me.

May God bless you,

Chaplain Ron Davis
