Her Life

Determined, Loving, Self Sacrificing

March 12, 2011

With determination and purpose born out of necessity and love for her family, in her early 20s, Jane joined the millions of Overseas Filipino workers, the "Bagong Bayani ng Pilipinas" (National Heroes) to work first in Jordan, in the Middle East, then in Quebec, Canada.

After a most tragic traffic accident, a severe spinal injury confined Jane to a wheelchair and she struggled to regain the use of her arms, hands, and fingers. Despite these physical limitations and the pain of continual muscle spasms, Jane strived to live normally. With great enthusiasm she watched sports on tv, took pride in her cooking expertise, enjoyed writing letters, and talked on the phone with friends, never missing her weekly conversation with family in the Philippines.

She also sought to assist family and friends in finding opportunities for a better life by helping them find employment and permanent residency in Canada. Jane delighted in participating in every holiday activity, birthday, and wedding of her many faithful and loving friends and their growing families.

She was a favorite "Tita" of the many children born into her large community of long-time acquaintances and close friends in Montreal. A strong woman, a dedicated daughter, sister, aunt, and friend, Jane is much loved and missed by all.
