|Let the memory of Celia be with us forever|
Celia Poppleton Bailey died Thursday, April 4, 2013, at Terrace Grove in Logan, Utah. She was born June 30, 1919, in Wellsville Utah, the youngest of nine children, to William Riggs and Annie Larsen Poppleton.
She married Reese Bailey on April 30, 1941, in the Logan LDS Temple. He passed away July 6, 1991. They were the parents of four children.
Celia was a lifelong resident of Wellsville and attended elementary and junior high in Wellsville and graduated from South Cache High School in Hyrum, Utah.
Being a farm girl, Celia worked alongside her brothers and sisters in the hay fields. She also spent many hours thinning, hoeing and topping beets.
After her children were raised Celia went to work at Sunshine Terrace. She worked there for 30 years and made many dear friends with her co-workers and the residents. These friends were always very special and dear to her.
Celia was a member of the Wellsville 3rd Ward, and had a strong testimony of the gospel. She held callings in the Relief Society, Mutual, Sunday School and Primary, where she enjoyed serving. She also spent many hours working with friends on the Old Folks Committee preparing meals for ward members. She enjoyed genealogy work and made each of her children a genealogy book.
Celia loved spending time on Fridays with her friends where they enjoyed lunch, visiting together and going on rides in the car. Thank you to those friends who made it possible for her to go and enjoy that time together. She enjoyed life and her association with people. Her greatest joy was when her family, friends and neighbors would come and visit her in her home. She loved to cook and her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren were the recipients of her famous sugar cookies with pink frosting, chocolate cake, puffed rice balls, homemade candy, and wonderful homemade bread which she made and shared weekly. She also loved doing handwork and spent many hours making quilts, crocheting afghans, baby blankets, hot pads and embroidery work.
Reese and Celia enjoyed spending time together during the summer in Blacksmith Fork Canyon. They would park their trailer in their "regular" spot and spend a few days each week enjoying the peace and quiet of the canyon.
She is survived by her children: DeAnn and Jerry Haslam of Wellsville Utah; Paul and Becky Bailey of Mt. Sterling Utah; Lana and Jerry (deceased) Simmonds of Trenton Utah, and Mark and Polly Bailey of Kaysville, Utah. She also leaves behind 14 grandchildren, 25 (plus one on the way) great-grandchildren and nine (plus one on the way) great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Reese; her parents; four brothers: William, George, Roy and Marvin; four sisters: Clora, Leola, Carrie, and Verda; and son-in-law Jerry Simmonds.
Funeral services will be held at 12 p.m. Tuesday, April 9, 2013 at the Wellsville 3rd Ward chapel, 49 West 200 South. A viewing will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday night at Allen-Hall Mortuary, 34 East Center St. in Logan Utah, and 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the church prior to services. Interment will be in the Wellsville City Cemetery. Condolences may be expressed to the family online at www.allenmortuaries.net.
The family would like to express their sincere appreciation and gratitude to Hospice and Terrace Grove for their loving kindness and concern as they cared for our beloved mother and grandmother.
