Seven years ago today I was on a flight from Alberta to our new home in Ontario with my husband and two cats.
It was such an adventure for us and we were so excited.  As soon as we landed and went to claim our luggage, I had to call my Mom as something was not right.  What a shock to hear the terrible news of my cousin's passing.
All I could do is think of those two beautiful children she had left behind and how could they cope without their amazing Mother.  Luckily for Duncan and Lily, Chantell was able to instill so much goodness into them.  They have so much of their loving mother's gentle way.
Unfortunately, we have lost my wonderful Mother as well, and it gives me peace to think Mom is still teaching Chantell some of her secrets and special recipes as they berry pick in a beautiful spot saved for them by Nanny - who loved them both so much!

Seven Years Have Passed

November 16, 2012
Today Chantell has been gone 7 years! It seems like yesterday that Papa and I had to tell Duncan and Lily that their Mom was not coming home! That she had died! A lot as happened this past seven years! Duncan and Lily have become responsible and loving young people. Russell continues to do his best to support them with help from the Grandparents. But it is still very sad that our beautiful daughter is not here sharing life with us. Life does go on and I know that Chantell would not want us to be sad, but to carry on and remember what we shared. The love, the hope for a bright future for us all and to always find something in our day to be grateful for! Chantell was loving and kind to all so we can honor her memory by being the best loving and kind people possible! I am missing Chantell more and more rather then less and less! The pain has become more bearable as time passes, and with God's grace we will pass through this time of grieving.

Grandfather Len's Gift

May 2, 2012
After Lily was born her grandpa Leonard Janzen gifted her with a puppy, a Blue Healer, Cross named Louis, Lily and Louis were the same age 8 weeks old. So not only did she train the puppy at the same time training Duncan and nursing Lily! Chantell was busy in the early years and most of her time was spent outside. Lily was born in January and the first week of her life she was out quading and is still enjoying it today. The day of the funeral, there wasn't a hesitation to Louis's presence in the Church! He was a welcome addition to the Celebration of Chantell's Life! Louis and Lily have just had their 12th Birthday's. Hope they share many more together. A DOG is truly Man's Best Friend!

The Day Lily was born

May 2, 2012
As Russell, Chantell's husband was working out of town, when her water broke in the middle of the night, her Dad and I drove her to the hospital. The Misercordia was our destination but Chantell said, "Dad, I don't think I'll make it to the City! We turned into the hospital in Stony Plain and as Chantell was truly on her way to delivering, they kept her and Lily was born! She was given the title, " First Millennium Baby in the County of Parkland." 2000 was indeed a good year, the year our beloved granddaughter, LILY ADELE STEINKE was born, a compliment to our darling grandson, Duncan Lee Steinke!

The Day Duncan Was Born!

April 6, 2012
Chantell had done her training to prepare for her up coming birth and as they say that your labour can go on for some time she stayed home a little tooooo loooong! We all went along, her Nanny, myself,( Mother) Russell and Chantell to the Misercordia Hospital. We wheeled her up to her room and in that large room, there was room for a rocking chair in one corner! That is where her Nanny sat! Russell, was on one side and I one the other side of the birthing bed! It all happened very quickly, from the entering the hospital to the birth of Duncan Lee it was 1 hour. I saw a phone beside the bed and quickly called the new Grandpa, Jack and held the phone beside Duncan as he let out his first cry. Jack asked how big he and I said that it was the first cry of the new baby and that I didn't know! Including Jack in the delivery was great but as he was in the middle of an important job in the field, he was not able to focus the rest of the day! It was a great Day! The Day Duncan was born!
