Mrs. Joh-Childs was born in Lakeland, Florida on February 12, 1927, the daughter of the late Oscar Goldridge Creel and Nona Ethelda Lucas Creel. From a very early age it was clear that Charlotte would be a woman of high character and a tremendous work ethic. As a young mother she became a popular television personality in the Tampa-Saint Petersburg area. Her beautiful face, wonderful voice, and sweet dispositions made her a favorite among the television audience, so much so that she actually received much more fan mail than the show’s star. While developing her career she was able to maintain the perfect balance at home with her family. Her children regale her as a perfect cook who always had a fabulous meal on the table! Even with a very full schedule she managed to have time to design and make beautiful clothing for her five little ones. It was during this time in her life that she became the Orchid Queen and was first runner up in the Mrs. Florida Pageant. When the television industry changed to cater to the Pop Culture she knew it was time for her to change direction. She did this by delving into the banking industry. Never afraid of hard work and wanting to assist her husband with the family income she began work as a teller. At the time of her retirement she was Senior Vice President of the Fulton Federal Savings and Loan in Atlanta, Georgia. Throughout her lifetime there was one thing that was always a constant, her dedication to her Lord. Until she was well up in years her sweet voice was enjoyed by her church family. Even though she was senior to most, her still lovely face, soft spoken voice, and Godly ways likened her to an angel. She will be missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by her husband, Jack Childs of Franklin, GA.; four daughters, Sherry Jones (Skip) of Franklin, GA., Charlene Odem (David) of Cartersville, GA., Taffee Joh-Oakes (Ronnie Brannon) of Woodland, AL., and Pennee Rowland (David) of Palm Harbor, FL.; one son Fritz Joh (Sharlene) of Franklin, GA.; one sister Margie Sue Brock (Bill) of Holliday FL.; fifteen grandchildren; and eighteen great-grandchildren.
Other than her parents she was preceded in death by her first husband, Leopold Edwin Joh.
