Marco and I were so shocked and saddened to hear about Chris's passing. We remember so fondly the years of working with Chris and Elizabeth in Rome, and I was in touch with Chris just a few months ago, during my bidding season. Elizabeth, stiamo pensando a te e ci ricordiamo tutte le belle occasione insieme in Italia - dal famoso G-8 a una cena con voi per Thanksgiving --e molto di piu'.

Chris was a true pleasure to work with in CDA/AD--as consular officers, we often discussed leadership and management tools, experiences, and tips. I will always remember his smiles, even in the midst of long meetings. Sending my deepest condolences to everyone--Chris departed this world far too soon....

We were deeply saddened and heartbroken to hear of Chris' passing. We traveled with Chris on trips in Portugal and Spain, and really enjoyed going out to dinner every week as part of our "Monday Night Dinner Group." Chris was a class act, with an infectious smile and wit. We will miss him.

Very sad to hear of Chris's passing. Chris and I played tennis regularly at Embassy Lisbon, prior to his assignment in Washington. He was a great player and always motivated me to play better. Although we shared many hours playing tennis and Chris always played with intensity and purpose, he never, in our entire 2 years of playing, wanted to play a game that we kept score. I found that unusually and refreshing and really revealed the person that Chris was. Eager to be a friend and engage with others, be very competitive BUT never wanted to "win" and show himself as better than the other person. I'm sure he probably would have won if we did keep score, he truly did not believe that winning or losing was that important. Only playing the game and enjoying that moment in life to the fullest. I will keep that fond memory of Chris for the rest of my life.

I was tremendously saddened to know of Chris’ early departure. Too early!! I worked with Chris in Lisbon when he served as our Consul General from 2010 to 2013. I will always have fond memories of the great professional he was and his spirit, his contagious laughter and his special sense of humor. His passion for European soccer leagues that he discussed with such incredible expertize with the other experts colleagues, in impeccable Portuguese with a cute Brazilian accent. My condolences go out to Elizabeth, his family and friends.

Chris, it's been a week and I still just don't know what to do or say. It is so difficult to come to the office knowing you won't be there to listen, laugh, or commiserate. You always valued my opinion, always trusted my judgment, and never made me feel like I was anything but awesome. I promise you I'm going to kick butt in Portuguese to do you proud. Everytime I speak it, I'll think of you. And even when I don't, I'll think of you. As you always said, "The bottom line is," you were the awesome one.

Elizabeth,

My wife and I were shocked and deeply saddened to learn of Chris's passing.  He was a highly professional FSO, of course, but his sense of humor and down-to-earth manner made him a valued colleague and friend.

Your are in our thoughts and prayers.

I was shocked and saddened to hear the news of Chris' death. Chris was a great boss/mentor/friend during my time in the Bureau of Consular Affairs. We shared a love of sports and all things Italian. I will be forever thankful for the professional development support and general life encouragement that Chris provided during countless trips to the Foggy Bottom Starbucks for double espressos - always his treat. Chris, you will be missed!

The light Chris shared with us in A 100, 29 years ago, shines as clear in my memory now as it did then, Chris brightened lives and warmed hearts at every moment of his life. By the measure that matters most, no life was more full than his. But to all who drew joy from his light, no loss could be more untimely. Susan and I join in sendng love to his family and deep thanks for sharing him with all of us.
