Let the memory of Christopher be with us forever

Spc Christopher Wright died in Pech, Afghanistan, Thursday, Aug. 19, 2010, of wounds sustained when insurgents attacked his unit using small arms fire.

He was assigned to the Charlie Company, 1st Battalion of the 75th Ranger Regiment, Hunter Army Airfield, out of Fort Stewart, Ga. He joined the Army in the summer of 2005. He had two prior deployments — one to Iraq and the other to Afghanistan. His awards and decorations include the Army Commendation Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal with Bronze Service Star, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, Combat Infantryman Badge, Expert Infantryman Badge, and Parachutist Badge. He was posthumously awarded the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart. Christopher attended Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic School in Jeffersonville, New Washington Junior High in New Washington, and, in 2005, graduated from Lewis County High School, Vanceburg, Ky. He enjoyed snowboarding, horseback riding and cutting horses. Growing up, he was a member of the Boy Scouts and had earned a purple belt in Tae Kwon Do. He was also an avid lover of music. Chris was a courageous and loyal man. He loved his family dearly, especially his brothers and sisters. He energetically faced the enemies of his country, while selflessly placing the lives of his fellow Rangers before his own. He will be lovingly missed and never forgotten. May he rest in the hands of God.

Survivors include his mother, Linda Wright-Dennis; his father, James Cochran; his wife, Michelle Cochran; grandmothers, Carol Cochran and JoAnn Stockton; uncles, John Cochran, Tom Wright and Steve Wright; aunts, Kathy Mauck and Leigh Ann Ritz; brothers and sisters, Andrew, Marianne, Katie, Zach and Zane; and extended family, Gordon Dennis, Greg Dorman and Mary Dennis.
