ForeverMissed

This memorial website was created in memory of Cliff Sims.  All who knew him knew how generous and kind he was - an all round good man.

Cliff knew lots of people from different walks of life.  If you knew him and want to share your messages of condolence or have a memory of him that you could share with the family they’d love to hear about it.

Due to the current restrictions the funeral of Cliff will only be attended by family.  We will hold a celebration of his life when restrictions are lifted and will give information on here as to when and where that is.

We’ve also set up a Just Giving page to raise funds for Age Concern’s Coronavirus Appeal for those who would like to donate https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/cliff-sims.

We will remember him forever.

I’m sat here watching the Senior Open this afternoon and I’m overcome with a memory that has prompted me to search for Cliff online. After trying the book of faces, I used the search engine to discover his reasonably recent passing. Whilst I’m terribly saddened to see it, I’m warmed by the tributes I’ve read.
Back in the mid 80’s I was Cliff’s caddie at Cuddington GC. My stepfather John Morris and his father Lesley had introduced us when I joined Cuddington as a junior. Many seasons of early mornings both cold and warm were enjoyed at Cliff’s service, listening to him and his golf partners tell stories of life’s woes and wins. Great days that have helped shape me as a golfer and a man.
It was an honour and privilege to know you sir. RIP

Cliff, you will be specially remembered at the CGC v Tyrrell's Wood match in September. Members from both clubs will raise a toast to you at this year's encounter - many years after you started this annual fixture. You were a special Captain and President at CGC and it was good to have known you.
Sincere condolences to all the family.

Very pleased to have known Cliff, and his wife Pauline,at Cuddington for a number of years. Asking son-in-law Cliff (Homersham) to convey my and Jean Williamson's condolences.

Cliff should be remembered for starting Charity Day at CGC in 1986 when he was Vice-Captain. The event raised £9500 for Leukemia Research in memory of a young man who had caddied regularly for Cliff and who had died from this disease. Since then Charity Day has become an annual event in support of various worthwhile causes.

Cliff delighted in his sobriquet of "Slippery" as he was a pretty sharp card player (ask John Cruisey) and was official bookmaker at the Club Championship in the 1980s. To my knowledge,he never welched on a bet.

Chris Fitzgerald.

PS Cliff often vied with Brian Edwards as to who was the slipperiest!!

Thank you for everything over the years - from teaching me to play golf, to late night games of cards and even my first brandy. You and Gran gave the four of us everything and we’re all tremendously grateful. You both knew how to live life to the full and you always taught us to put family first. You should be proud of everything you've accomplished. Rest in peace Grandad. x

Words cannot describe what it means to lose you Grandad. You were always there for all of us and would always do your best to put a smile on our faces. The happiest man I've ever known and I think the last photo of me and you at the summer fete your home put on proves that.
You and Gran lived your lives to the full and went on some amazing adventures that even people my age would be jealous of, from travelling around Australia to going on Safari in South Africa.
The one thing that gives me pleasure from this is knowing you are now both back together again.

Love and miss you x

We have had many lovely memories that I will always remember fondly. From cracking open the biscuit tin with Gran in bed, to dancing with all of my friends at my leaving party. You were a sensational man with a big heart and I feel lucky to have had you as my Grandad. Love you lots x x x x

I really miss you Dad. For so long I just took it for granted that you were there for me to babble on about my life and squeeze my hand. You were always calm and understanding, the perfect gentle man. I feel very lucky to have had you as my father and take comfort in all our happy, family memories.  xxxx

So proud to have had you as my Dad. Never had a bad word to say about anyone, was always so generous and caring - I never wanted for anything. And you taught me some valuable life lessons - including how to gamble on the horses and play a mean game of blackjack! Love you. xxx

For Cliff

Reg first met Cliff when l was 15 when l worked as an apprentice for Froys of Hammersmith, which was a very upmarket builders merchants with kitchen,  bathroom and fireplace department.  The floor manager,  Mr. Tampling, called me in the office and told me a trainee Manager was starting on Monday morning about 10am and l would like you to show him around the works.  His name was Cliff Sims from Stoke on Trent.  Sharp 10am on Monday morning Cliff arrived .  I showed him around the showroom and fireplace works.  ‘Very posh’ he said.  To start with he had some lodgings in Glenthorn Road, Hammersmith.  Some Sundays he came round to our house for lunch and we got on well.  Reg knew him for 63 years.  Remembers well when he met Pauline and when they had their daughters,  Nicola and Beverley.  The tiling company Froys joined Finch’s of Barkingside.  Soon after Cliff went on his own and l followed him.  Soon Cliff got well known and managed to get some big jobs through Wates and some of the City builders. Ron Fewtrell joined Cliff and Ron and l joined up together on most jobs we did for Cliff.  It was a standing joke that we were known as the Krays.
we had some good times working with Cliff.
Rest in Peace and God Bless - Reg Hunt and Ron Fewtrell

For Cliff

Our family memories of Cliff are as a lovely Dad, Husband, Father-in-Law and a wonderful Grandad. Our families first met through having children at Glaisdale and then Glyn where Cliff always proudly watched sporting and school events. This was followed on by children becoming involved with Italia Conti where Cliff was again a proud member of the audience for many many shows. Our paths as friends and family also crosses at Sutton and Epsom Rugby Club and weekend consider your family great friends of ours.
Cliff was a generous host and we were always invited in when we picked the children from his house.
How lucky you all are to have had him in your lives.
Sending our love to you all, Nicola, Cliff, Bev, Graham, Jayce, Alex, Luke, Jack and all your partners and family.
With love from
Janine, Paul, Madeline and Rory Eaton-Belton xxxxxxx
