Playing with Sophie

July 14, 2013

Clyde was the most wonderful and patient uncle with Sophie.  When she was around two years old, he used to come visit us in NYC and just play with her for hours.  They would read, bake pizza in her new oven, stack buckets and take her magnetized letter set and move the entire alphabet from the radiator to the front door to the refrigerator and back again. I remember how together they would  sound out the letters and how he would gently prod her to put together words.  After he left, Sophie would always say, "Clyde! I want Clyde. I want to play."

SOMMER FAMILY COMES TO NY

July 13, 2013

For many years the Sommer family would come to our Holbrook home in the summer for a short visit...Being the only boy in the family, I could`nt wait to have some male companionship...Eric would show up with his guitar and would sit in the backyard and play the only song he knew at the time(WILD THING)... Clyde would show up every year with a new set of tricks and card games...He was so proud to show off his new talent...He would laugh, fall down and just go crazy when I could`nt figure out the trick....When I would ask him how the trick worked he would tell me that a real magican cannot reveal how his tricks work...I would tell him that he was`nt a real magican but he still would`nt give in... When I look at pictures of Clyde, the one thing that strikes me the most is that happy-looking SMILE...I love you and really miss those care-free summers or is it sommers...David Gemmel

My first time to Manhattan AND getting to meet Clyde

July 11, 2013

We had such a lovely time Christmas 2012 in Manhattan with the family.  This is Clyde, Benet and I at EATaly.  The food was excellent  but the company was FANTASTIC.  Wish I could have gotten to know you better Clyde.

Come Memories, Come
To Clyde

Come memories, come
Slowly drift into my heart
Stay awhile like the leaves
Fall upon me every season

Come memories, come
Let us laugh and let us dance
Discover pathways of our souls
Dream our dreams we have again

Come memories, come
When the nighttime calls upon us
We will talk away the darkness
‘Til we come upon the dawn again

Come memories, come
Let your lovely spirit grace me
Keep your presence all around me
Let your peace help ease my pain

Come memories, come
As you have for many seasons
In the crimson all around me
Let me always find you there

...Love Always, Marcie

My favorite day with Clyde was going with him to pick out a basset hound at a rescue picnic.
We immediately fell in love with a beautiful basset named Jethro, who even for a basset, looked particularly forlorn.
The foster parents told us he had a difficult time being abandoned by his previous owners and he wouldn't even look us in the eye.

Fast forward a few months and Jethro is a new dog and Clyde is taking him everywhere he possibly could. Though I watched Clyde struggle through some bad luck, he always remained loyal to Jethro and took
impeccable care of him...it was clear he put Jethro before his own comfort, and I think that says so much about him.

The pair lived very close to me in Boston and Clyde had an unbelievable sense of timing...whenever I had a bad day he would miraculously arrive on my doorstep with Jethro just to say hi.
I missed him when he left Boston, and I can't believe he is gone....he was one of the kindest, most genuine people I know.  My thoughts are with his family and Jethro.
