This memorial website was created in memory of our beloved father, Daniel Domkowski, 72, born on February 17, 1943. He left this world on May 28, 2015.

Daniel was born in Bridgeport Connecticut and lived in the area his entire life. He was the eldest son of Constance and Elizabeth Domkowski. His younger brother, David, predeceases him. Daniel was married twice. His first wife was Barbara Wilson. They were married for 21 years and had two children, Patrick Domkowski of Florida and Michele Bissenden of Connecticut. He later married Carol Bocchino of Stratford. They were married for 25 years and had one son, Joseph Domkowski also of Stratford Connecticut. His four grandchildren, Lydia Bissenden of Connecticut and Caleb, Madeline and Havalah Domkowski of Florida, also survive him.

Dan proudly served on the Bridgeport Police Department from July 1967 to April 2014.  He worked for many years in Platoon 1 with a great group of guys and really enjoyed it. After Dan became a detective he joined the Narcotics and Vice Squad and worked there for many years. He enjoyed his police work very much and made many friends through the years.

Dan was proud of and loved all of his children very much.

After a tragic car accident while working, Dan underwent surgery and suffered complications that left him paralyzed.  His last two years were very difficult.  We will remember most our memories of him when we were younger.  Our summer days at Pleasure beach or going out for pizza at Pepe’s in New Haven. He enjoyed spending time with Carol and Joey vacationing at Block Island and trips to Vermont to see his life long friend, Jack Sherry.

Rest in peace in Dad. We love you.

Patrick, Michele and Joe.

Dear Dan: much has happened since you left but the memories of you still are there, especially the good ones and the funny ones. Willie, our all black cat at the time was an in and out cat……but usually was in by night fall. Well, one night when you were on night shift and on your way home, you spotted a black cat that had been hit by a car apparently and was dead. So being the good guy you were, you got a shovel, took the cat and proceeded to bury it in the nearby woods.
You were sad to break the news at home.
We all mourned Willie’s passing- But only a few days later-there was a black cat at our door and upon closer inspection - yes it was Willie!

I worked with Danny for years in narcotic and vice and it was a pleasure working with him

I was working one night and Danny was off Duty and was sitting in his car on Barnum Ave when A armed man came up to Dannys window and hit him in the face with a gun and demanded money
Danny drew his off duty weapon and killed this armed robber, I was the very first officer on the scene, Danny's face was bleeding from being pistol whipped, the assailant was lying dead on the ground by Danny's car, he was one tough cop Danny was, proud to have known and worked with you my brother

I was an officer in platoon one, Dan was someone I could always count on to complete an assignment, never any back talk, never an argument, did the job. If we ever had to serve in the military together, Dan would be one guy I would want to share a fox hole with. You will long be remembered.

All, it is with a very heavy heart that Sue and I learned of my cousin Danny's passing just today. I fondly remember coming over to the house on Barnum Ave after school at Kolbe HS with my cousin and his younger brother Dave. Quite often Danny would come by with his white Thunderbird and the three of us would have a quick adventure until my dad would come by heading back from work to pick me up and head home.
To all we wish you peace and love.

I just came onto this site. Did not know it existed. Dan and I were friends from 5 years old. The 68 years we were separated at times a great distance but still managed to get together. Before his accident we spoke of what he wanted to do after retiring. He was proud of his kids and if the subject came up he gave me the latest update. He came to Vermont as often he could. When I was in Florida, he came there . He is missed by all who knew him. Later Dan. Jack

Danny we met during as I was assisting on a Search Warrant in the Hollow in the early 90's.. From there I saw what I thought the job was all about (discretion, loyalty, brotherhood and of course FUN). At the end of my career you were partnered with My old Partner Popeye to most (Poppie to me). I learned I was eating peanuts wrong and throughing half of it away. We had times in my life I will never forget, thank you so much!
To the Domkowski's I wish you peace and happiness though this time, he was so proud of his big boys (made #1 Heart Doc). Always know he Loved all of his family... RIP

I never saw Dan in his full uniform regalia but he was a fun part of our family for many years. He advised me in those days when I had a heavy foot on the gas pedal what to do and avoid. He never gave me permission to use his name if stopped but I might have done that once or twice after all he was my brother-in-law! Rest in Peace, Dan. Betty

I'm so sorry for your loss. Danny was a great cop. A cops cop who will be sadly missed. Danny worked with my dad before I joined the force. Danny would tell me stories about my dad that I will cherish forever. I had the honor of knowing and working with Danny. He loved his family very much. One of the toughest cops there was. R.I.P. My brother. Save me a seat up there and thank you. Again to his family I'm so sorry for your loss.

Dear Domkowski Family,
I offer by sincere condolences. I was on the "Job" from 1985 to 2005, and knew Danny. He truly was a "Cop's Cop", loved his job very much. It is a pleasure and honor to call him one of my "Brothers in Blue".

I got on the job in 1998, and i could always remember when calling for the detective Bureau Domkowski and Sherbo responding to the scenes. They were like professional Abbot and Cosetello . It did not matter what type of scene it was , they would always be very professional, but would make the parties involved and the cops covering the incident laugh. The stories Dom would tell with his side kick sherbo always made the guys laugh .he will always be remembered for getting the job done and a great funny man that lightened the stresses of police work for all that encountered him. RIP Brother of the blue your stories will be passed on from generations to generations . You will never be forgotten and i know you are eatching over all of us.

Dan was a good father, cop and friend. He loved to laugh and loved life, his friends, family and a good cigar. See you on the other side Dan. Hugs and prayers from our family to yours. The Browns

Don't grieve for me, for now I'm free!
I follow the plan God laid for me.
I saw His face, I heard His call,
I took His hand and left it all...
I could not stay another day,
To love, to laugh, to work or play;
Tasks left undone must stay that way.
And if my parting has left a void,
Then fill it with remembered joy.
A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss...
Ah yes, these things I, too, shall miss.
My life's been full, I've savoured much:
Good times, good friends, a loved-one's touch.
Perhaps my time seemed all too brief—
Don't shorten yours with undue grief.
Be not burdened with tears of sorrow,
Enjoy the sunshine of the morrow.
