His Life
January 27, 2014

Dave loved snowmobiling with his friends Gord and Larry. They would meet up North and sled for the whole day. I was always worried about the speed he travelled. The first few years we owned back North every year they would come up.
After a long day of sledding Dave always had a cottage roll in the crock pot for all to enjoy. I did not live back North then so all bunked in at the house room for the 3 of them. His sister Anna and Paul did come back once in all the years enjoying a day out with Dave on the sleds. It was my day off so was back for the day. I cooked a nice meal for us to enjoy. We were feeding the deer then they were amazed when they looked out the window while eating and there they were. Just like a train one behind the other through the 3 trails into the backyard. It is not everyday that you enjoy such a site. He took me time to time during the first of the week when trails were quiet. We would ride the rail bed line all the way to Tim Hortons in Bancroft have lunch and come home. It was beautiful riding along we would see deer on our travels. I would always ask him to drive slower as not much room on the seat. His sled was really built for one not for two. Those were great winter memories I am sure Larry and Gord also Anna and Paul will remember for years to come. Good times Dave enjoyed with them during the winter season.

Dave's Stories and Some Of His Likes

October 2, 2013

Dave grew up in Emerald Island he fished, swam and loved to be out in a boat.
He attended Thomas A Stewart told me he loved gymn class being involved in wrestling. He shared a story with me of helping a farmer during summer months on a farm and how much he enjoyed it. Said that one cow gave birth to a white calf and the farmer told Dave that it was his to care for. As the time passed the calf grew into a beautiful cow. The farmer was making decision on which cows to send out to slaugher Dave asked the farmer to not send Snowball. He said that Snowball would have great healthy calfs and to keep her. He said that spring Snowball had twin calfs and continued to each and every year. I always believed that he learned many things from the farmer as he could fix or build anything! When we  dated we loved to go camping at Serpent Mounds and spend hrs in the boat fishing. Dave was well organized for any camping trip tarps up to keep dry if rained so we would not get wet coming out of the trailer. Indoor , outdoor carpeting on the ground so trailer would stay clean. Dave would laugh that I fished with rubber baits and he fished with live baits and that I would still sometimes catch fish! One time caught a catfish while cleaning it horn stuck in his hand. Dave's hand ballooned I am sure it was painful but he would never say. Dave loved the outdoors whether gardening, fishing, boating, camping, cutting down trees it was his favorite place to be.In the summer he would have say he had a farmers tan!  Dave and I both loved the movie Forrest Gump he would imitate Forrest say life is like a box of chocolates. I would also tease him that he watched Troy at least 10 times if it was on he would watch it. He got a kick out The Big Bang Theory and we both loved Heartland my ultimate favorite Tv show. Every week we watched Survivor when Dave was working if it was on I called him gave him an update on the show he missed. Oh so many great shows he loved just to name a few! Dave was a gentle spirit did not want to be a social butterfly that was not his thing. Dave liked working with wood and doing carpentry also but nothing took place of gardening that was the ultimate favorite. Dave mentioned about when he was young babysitting his younger sisters Anna and Lisa. Dave also spent much time with Granddaughter Emmy she loved Popa. She also loved being out in the garden with him. Kicking a soccer ball around the back yard. She would say " I run in grass Popa I run in grass then sit down when tired feeling it in her little hands". Emmy would always say if something did not work call Popa he can fix anything"

Dave's Garden

October 1, 2013

When we purchased home in Coe Hill Dave spent hrs in the yard. Digging up rocks twice the size of him digging holes to bury them. Trees cut down land scaping done preparing for the yrs to come. Mom would visit with her walker he did not want toe trippers so yard was great for any age group. Made large fire pit for us out of fire truck rim. We would have a campfire on summer nights he would have it blazing he would say " White man fire light up whole sky". As time passed planted a garden oh how he loved to plan it and plant it! Dave would have blue prints of the garden what was going to be planted where. Each row perfect in design soil made rich to grow the healthiest veggies you could ever eat. Tomatoes where amazing and a zuccini that people looked at and could not believe the size. After growing the garden we had more then we could ever eat. Started to sell the veggies on an honor system to cover seed costs, etc. Surprised how people left the money just in the jar. He looked so foreward to the day he could just retire and grow gardens. I know he has an amazing garden in heaven. I am sure he helped the memorial garden I planted this year as I grew veggies I did not even plant. When I planted it said a prayer to him that he would have to help me with this endevour as he was the gardener I was just the one who picked. Dave got great joy from this!

City Worker

October 1, 2013

My husband was a good worker. He loved his job driving heavy duty equipment snow ploughs, garbage truck, dump, trucks. Whatever he did gave 100%. Worked at the rinks for many yrs keeping the ice perfect for all to use. He took great pride in whatever task he took on whether big or small. He was proud wearing his uniform and anybody that asked for helping hand he was there.
