David was born in Kirkcaldy on the 6th of October1954 to his father Andrew and his mother Mary. He stayed in Templehall till he was 8 years old. With his father in the RAF he moved down to Lincolnshire for 3 years before moving out to Germany for a further 3 years before returning to Fife where he attended Waid Academy.  On leaving school David started working in the towns prestigious Craws Nest hotel as a comy chef before the lure of following in his father's footsteps he Joining the RAF.
