David Eugene Rooks, 74, a longtime resident of Granville County passed away Wednesday, April 1, 2015 at Duke University Medical Center.

A native of Columbus County, the son of the late John and Thelma Jackson Rooks. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Butner and retired with thirty- seven years as a Master Sergeant with the North Carolina National Guard.

Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 PM Saturday, April 4, 2015 at First Baptist Church in Butner by Pastor Charlie Bryan and Rev. Lenny Rogers. Burial will be in Carolina Memorial Gardens in Creedmoor.

Surviving are his wife of fifty-one years , Dolly Pierce Rooks of the home, a daughter, Pamela Rooks DeZurik of Wake Forest , a son, Timothy Eugene Rooks of Hickory , two sisters, Frances R. Bengel of Nashville, Louise R. Gay of Rocky Mount, eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, John Rooks and Bobby Rooks.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to First Baptist Church in Butner, P.O. Box 44, Butner, NC 27509.

Visitation will be held Saturday, April 4th 2015 from 1:30-3:00 PM in the Family Life Center at the First Baptist Church in Butner and at other times at the home.

To Tim, Pam and All the Rooks Family. I know today, as every year on this date of your Dad's Passing is so very hard for all of you.  Time passes so fast now, but I know for each one of you, it probably seems like yesterday. My Heart and Prayers are with you on this 5 year anniversary of you losing your Dad.  I wish I could tell you it gets easier, but I too, after losing both my parents know how much you miss him.

Stephen and I attended David's service Saturday and it was a sweet moving service to David's legacy. Dolly and family, I know you will miss him. God will give you comfort in this time of grief. May you know that David is now with his Heavenly Father with no more pain and suffering.

David worked as Clerk for the National Guard OMS in Butner under my supervision for approximately 18 years. David was exemplary in performing his duties, kept excellent records and always willing to do whatever it took to get the job done. This made my job much easier. In addition he and Dolly have been good friends of my family through the years. I will miss him so very much. My prayers and deepest sympathy to all his family

I had the pleasure of working with MSG Rooks for many years at the National Guard. No matter the issue, the conversation ended in laughter. He is laughing at us now. -Sending prayers for peace to his family.

David was a good friend and always had a smile. We always enjoyed visiting the OMS shop and seeing a friendly face when we went to work in Butner. David will truly be missed. My thoughts and prayers go out to all the family.
