March 28, 2011

This story is about my dad david leckie born 21/11/1932 in scotland.

he was married to my mum margaret 1957 and devorced in 1963 .

i never seen my dad as i was only 3 years old when we left scotland . i tried to find my dad many times but to no avail , i rang every leckie in scotland even got through to a priest who was called david leckie . i thought all my dreams had come true . then i asked him if he was once maried to my mum and he said sorry sweetie i wish i was your dad but he said he had never married . but i could always ring him and chat if i needed to. i thought that was really nice of the priest so i thanked him and he wished me luck , so i continued to keep looking but then still got nowhere. untill my friend called one day and i had told him that i had een up scotland to get my birth certifacte and thats when i got the shock of my life . i had always been known as jean leckie , wow i cried because when i looked i was called JANE . so i used my birth name from then on so my friendsaid leave it with me and i will see what i can do . and then i got an address possibly of where my dad migh be living . so i rang the council and they comfirmed he did live there ...well what a shocki got as from going not knowing where my da was to actully finding his address. well as you can imagian i said we will go and see if it is my dad . all sorts of hings were going through my mind what if he does not want to know me or he says i am not his daughter or it was not even my dad . you canĀ  only go and see , so we set f that morning not knowing if we were doing the right thing. but we set of and arrived in scotland at 4-30 that morning , the lights were on but we found a litle b&b and stayed there till 10am . james cottage quite a beautiful place . micheal made us very welcome and we told him why we had travelled to scotland he said that wonderfl hope you find your dad . so we went back to the house and sat outside for about an hour before i plucked up enough courage to knockon the door . but i did not have to knock as a young lad came out as i was walking up the path and he said hello ca i help you . i said maybe so i said i am looking for david leckie he said he lives here well my heart skiped a few beats and my legs went to jelly. he said can i ask who wants to know , i said i do i am jane is david here he said thats my grandad i said okay can i havea word with him i think i might be his daughter jane , well he looked at me and said i am really sorry but grandad died 6 weeks ago . well i could not believe it that my dad had passed away before i got to seee him so i said we will go then sorry i called .the young lad said wait a min my grandma wants a word with you . so we went in and there was this very lovin woman sat in a chair and she said to me welcome home jane you are defo your daddies girl even satwhere my daused to sit i even rocked like my dad could not believe thati had missed him so we stayed with cathy for a week and then came back down home .thoughts of everyone and everything was going through my head then cathy died so we went back for her furneral that was another sad day but at least i go the pleasure to meet cathy and family that i would never change . my only wish is that i had seen my dad i know that i love him very much and miss him too , but in my heart he will always be with me no matter where i go or do he is my DAD .
