Biography: Deji Omotoso

Ayodeji Omololu Omotoso was born on June 20, 1963 at the Hackney Hospital East London to the family of Elder Olusumbo and Judith Ibidunni Omotoso. He was their second son of a family of five boys. In May 1967, just before he turned 4, he came back with his parents to Nigeria, where they moved to NEPA Estate Ebute Metta. Shortly after their return Deji started his primary school education at Ireti Primary School, Ikoyi where he was undoubtedly one of the brightest and finest students of his class.

He proceeded to Igbobi College, Yaba in 1973, for his secondary education and finished in 1978. An  intelligent and brilliant student, by all standards, Omiiii (as he was fondly called) had an affinity for numbers; and Mathematics swiftly became his best subject. Upon leaving Igbobi College, he proceeded to International School Ibadan (ISI), University of Ibadan to study for his A'Levels, which he successfully completed in the 1979/1980 session. Deji immediately gained admission into University of Ife (now OAU) to study Politics, Philosophy and Economics (PPE) where he easily completed his studies and graduated in 1983.

In 1984 after finishing his National Youth Service in Benue State, Deji started his professional career as a Graduate Trainee with Coopers and Lybrand, Lagos (now PricewaterhouseCoopers) where he qualified as an Associate member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) and later left as an Audit Senior in 1989.

He relocated to the UK where he joined Martin Coleman & Co (Chartered Accountants) before moving to Price Waterhouse in Morocco as an Audit Manager where he worked for a year.

In 1991 and over the next few years, he worked with the Royal Free Hampstead NHS Trust as a Principal Internal Auditor and qualified as a member of the Institute of Internal Auditors UK in 1993.

In 1996 he joined Shaftesbury Housing Group and rose to the position of Group Internal Audit Manager.

In 1998 he joined Amalgamated Metal Corporation Plc (AMC) in the UK, first as an Operational Review Accountant and then as the Financial Controller for one its subsidiaries - AMC Chemicals UK/US where he worked till 2006 before relocating back to Nigeria.

In 2006, DO (as he was fondly called in ARM), joined ARM as the Group’s Chief Financial Officer where he also sat on the board of various ARM subsidiaries.

Deji is survived by his parents,  siblings, loving wife Bisi and 3 children, Oreoluwa, Damilola & Ireoluwa Omotoso.
