A native of Birmingham, AL., and the daughter of the late Roman T. and Henrietta Knox Moss, Mrs. Vernon received her Bachelors Degree at Alabama A&M University and her Masters at Tuskegee University. A classroom educator for over 32 years, she retired from the Muscogee County School District, her last tenure being at Columbus High School. Residing in Columbus since 1952, she was a devout member of First African Baptist Church and its Deaconess Ministry, Esther Missionary Circle, Nursery Ministry and Bulletin Board Committee. Civic and social organizations included the Retired Gals, Jack and Jill of America, Bridge Club and Delta Sigma Theta Sorority. She was a member of the GAE, MEA and the GRTA. She retired from the Pink Lady Auxiliary at the Medical Center.

Survivors include a devoted husband of 65 years, Mr. Harry L. Vernon; two sons, Dereck L. Vernon(Niki) and Harry T. Vernon; five grandchildren, one great grandchild; a sister, Odessa Armstrong; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
