Her Life

Perth

November 24, 2013

Denise had just started high school in Victoria when we moved over to Perth.
The rest of her high school life was here. First at St Joachims in Victoria Park then up in the hills.

Denise worked for Curtis Bros Removals as a secretary first here in Perth then over in Melbourne where she lived for a while, Met her fiance Martin there.
Then in 1989 they decided to come to WA dog and cat in tow.
They lived in Victoria Park.
They had only been back here a while when the terrible accident happened that took their lives.

Denise age 20 on the 24June 1989 died.

Back to England

November 24, 2013

In 1976 grandma died in England.  So in April that year the girls and I made a sudden trip back.
We stopped at Bombay on the way and I bought the girls a musical doll each
which they then played much to the anoyance of the other passengers all the way to England.
We had to stay in England then for six months and the girls had to go to school there which I think they found a little bit different to Australia.
Finally we made it back to Australia after six months there.

Kindy

November 24, 2013

Denise went to kindy in about  1973. Her greatgrandmother was out for a visit and we had taken Denise to kindy one day and had gone home.
We saw this little child walking down our street and said "that looks like our Denise"
Well it was. She had fallen over and hurt her knee and wanted a biscuit and they wouldn't give her one so she spotted the door open and walked out.

Goodbye England Hello Australia

November 24, 2013

August 1971 we came to Australia as 10 pound poms.
Such a different life. A few more dangers that in England.
One day Denise was playing in the back garden with an egg carton. She dropped this and a redback sider ran across the path. Shock horror.

My Baby Sister

November 24, 2013

In February 1971 Denise's sister was born.
She was so excited.
Again in Chorley Hospital.
I could hear Denise running down the corridor for her first visit, shouting baby sister,  baby sister.
She stopped at the door of the ward, then saw the baby and kissed her.
Sisterly love is born.

Welcome to the world

November 24, 2013

November 26 1968 and we are sitting in bed timeing contractions. Is this really it or false labour?
No it's real. Off to Chorley hospital.  Which was a very busy place that night. No time for any prep's, just an injection and into bed on the ward.
Had to shout for help.  I was taken into the delivery room where they were stripping the bed from the previous delivery.
There was a lady in the next bed who the midwife told to shut up, she sounded like a cow.  (Wonder where Buttercup and her baby Daisy are today)
5.30am on November 27 1968 Denise was born. She weighed 7lb 9ozs.
There were a few complications for me after and that took a while to sort out.
But when I came to there she was, so beautiful and such a good baby.
I couldn't stop gazing at her.
