I remember driving to Lake McConaughy in Ogallala, Nebraska in that little green Toyota with Rolling Stones and Fleedwood Mac blaring, the wind blowing from the wide-open window. Everyone else was tired and cranky but Dennis never seemed to have normal human tiredness. That cackle of a laugh, the endless nicknames (I liked being called Kay-Bert best), the fact that although he was one week shy of being 10 years older than me, that he never treated me like a kid -- these are the memories I'll cherish.
