Dolores Mary Bean, 87, of Escanaba, peacefully passed Sunday evening, October 19, 2014, at the Christian Park Village, where she had resided for the past two years.
Dolores was born April 7, 1927, in Chicago, Illinois, the daughter of Herbert Gale and Yolanda Gagliardi. She was raised in Libertyville, Illinois, until age nine, and then moved to Maquoketa, Iowa to live with her mother and step-father, Stuart F. Cooper. Dolores graduated from Maquoketa High School in 1945.
Dolores married Gordon K. Bean on September 22, 1947, at St. Raphael’s Cathedral, Dubuque, Iowa. Together they resided: first in Dubuque, Iowa, then Chicago, Illinois and finally Escanaba, Michigan, since 1954. They were married for 55 years.
After high school, Dolores worked for Western Union, in Dubuque, Iowa. She worked as a homemaker following the births of her three daughters. Later she worked at Shoppers’ Town, Coast to Coast hardware and retired in 1991 after working twenty years at Woolworths.
She enjoyed knitting, cross-stitching, crossword puzzles, music, nature, storytelling and her passion, reading. She loved Escanaba and especially rides through the park and harbor. In her Five Wishes document Dolores said she would like to be remembered as “Somebody Special – a wonderful mother and a good wife.”
Survivors are: Three daughters, Charon (Scott) Porter of Marquette, Michigan, Merrily (Tom) Bauer of Williamsburg, Michigan and Lynn (Joe) Kelly of Gypsum, Colorado, and three grandchildren, Shawn Bauer (Carrie Sea) of Washington, Jenny (Josh) Bell of Washington and Kai Kelly of Colorado and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
Dolores was preceded in death by her parents, husband, aunts and uncles, mother and father-in-law, brothers and sisters-in-law and son-in-law, Joe Kelly.
There will be no funeral and a memorial service will be held at a later date.
Arrangements were handled by Skradski Family Funeral Homes of Delta County.
