Donald Adkins

  Services for Donald R. Adkins, 66, Norfolk, will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 4, at the Howser-Fillmer Mor­tuary. The Rev. Al Foote will offici­ate with burial in the Hillcrest Memorial Park Cemetery.

Military rites will be conducted by American Legion Post 16 and Veterans of For­eign Wars Winter-Munson Post 1644 of Norfolk.

Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Monday at the mortuary.

He died Thursday, July 30, 1998, at his home.

The son of Ben and Mary Ellen (Petersen) Adkins was born July 17, 1932, at Omaha. He gradu­ated from Benson High School in 1950. He served in the U.S. Army in Korea from November 1952 until September 1954.

He married JoAnne Holmes at Fort Riley, Kan. He lived in Cali­fornia for several years working for an elevator company doing maintenance. He then returned to Nebraska and worked at Mimick Motor Company in Madison and at the Arbuthnot Garage in Omaha and Madison. He retired in 1994 from Affiliated Foods where he had worked for almost nine years. He was also employed at Norfolk Public Schools for several months during 1997.

He was a member of the Ameri­can Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Posts of Norfolk, and was a past commander of the Vet­erans of Foreign Wars Post of Madison from 1978-79.

Survivors include his son, James of Pleasant Hill, Calif.; three daughters, Cheryl Adkins of Fre­mont, Calif., Cynthia Gimenez of Sacramento, Calif., and Donna Adkins of Alameda, Calif.; a broth­er, James Adkins; and three grand­children.

Don was a longtime member of the American Legion and of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He served as Post Commander of VFW Post 5763 from 1978-1979.
