BIOGRAPHY OF DORIS OMONYE EHIKHAMHEN OBASEKI

July 17, 2013

Doris Omonye Ehikhamhen Obaseki was born on the 6th of August 1982 at St. Camillus hospital in Uromi, Edo state into the family of Mr & Mrs Peter Ehikhamhen. She was the fourth child and the second girl in the family. Our mum was so happy when she had another baby girl after two boys in between the first girl – and there were just two girls in the family of seven.

She attended Okpujie primary school and proceeded to Our Lady of Lourdes girls’ grammar school for her secondary Education and finished up at Word of Faith Group of School in Uromi. She had her university Education in Ambrose Ali University where she studied Microbiology. She did her National youth service corps in Federal Ministry of Health, Abuja.

She worked with CMC connect after her youth service for a few years before going into business  full time what she had always wanted to do. She registered her company name called Leopieces ltd.

The business inclined Doris we all knew before she died actually started from when she was barely a teenager. She had started making her own money by selling stuff like sweets, chewing gums, coconut candle etc. which she would at the end put profit together to get something nice for herself.

Her dream was to have a world class boutique where all fashionable clothes and accessories would be found.

She got married on the 6th of December 2009 to Mr Orhue Obaseki. She met her husband while she was in 100levels in the university in 2001. Their love blossomed all through the years and Her joy knew no bounds when she finally got married to the love of her life. She loved her husband with everything she had got.

Growing up, she was very vibrant in every aspect of life. She served God in her childhood; she was an active member of the flower girls group at St. Anthony Catholic church Uromi, where she sang and danced to the glory of God.

Doris was a unique child – that was seen right from her infancy period. She was loved and admired by all. She was a beauty to behold. Everybody wanted to be her friend. Her dad loved her so much; she had this huge influence on her dad, he gave her whatever she wanted that was within his reach because she knew how to go about it whenever she needed something. She would cry and cry until her daddy would say okay you would get it. Crying was her weapon. She was a very strong willed person.

She was a tomboy while growing up, she struggled with her brothers, she fought with them, played football with them which was her favourite sport. She was a Chelsea fan. Doris never gave up in arguments, this always brought about quarrels and fights between her and her siblings.  Most times one had to give up at some point even when one was right just to end the argument. She was nicknamed “Doris Ugan” (in English Doris argument).

There was never a dull moment with Doris; she loved music and dancing. She would dance to any music and people always wondered what a girl she was that was never shy. She was never a shy person; she expressed herself whenever and wherever necessary. She had a lot of friends which we always wondered how she got to manage them but she did.

She was a cheerful giver with an opened heart, she could give out the only stuff she had if you needed it more than she did. She housed and fed people that she knew nothing about and be comfortable with them. She never complained but took life as it came. She lived this passage in the bible Mtt 6:34 that says: Therefore do not worry about tomorrow for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own. That was Doris’s philosophy of life.

Her dreams were cut short on July 18, 2012 during child birth.

She was a rare gem!

May her soul continue to rest in the Lord, Amen.
