Dorothy Arend Obituary

Dorothy Evelyn Arend went to be with her Lord on May 8, 2015.  She was born to Lyle and Geneva Martin on December 31, 1923, in Three Oaks, Michigan, and she grew up with four brothers.  She graduated from New Buffalo High School as class salutatorian in 1941.  She was employed at the A&P grocery store in Bridgman for thirty-two years.  She married the love of her life, Delbert Arend, on October 9, 1943, and her only child Robert was born on August 30, 1944.  She resided on Shawnee Road in Baroda for forty-three years, and for many years, Delbert and Dorothy were members of Hills Corners Bible Church.  They moved to San Diego, California, in 1997, to  be with their son and grandchildren and to escape the snow in Berrien County. She is remembered by her family as a kind and loving Mom and Grandmother, a devout Christian, and a care giver to all who knew her.  She enjoyed cooking, gardening, and many church activities.   She was preceded in death by her husband Delbert in 2011, and three brothers, Gerald, Donald, and Robert Martin. She is survived by her son Robert and his wife Evie, her brother James in Washington, and three grandchildren, Julie Benn, Joshua Arend, and Jeff Kole.  Memorial services will be held at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, gifts can be made to Elizabeth Hospice, 500 LaTerraza Blvd., Escondido, CA 92025 (760-737-2050).  Friends are asked to leave a memorial tribute on the Guest Book online at www.forevermissed.com/dorothy-arend.
