Her Life

A Columbus native, she was the daughter of the late Walter Foster and Lillie Mae Ross Geter. For over 25 years, she was employed as a cook with the 54th Infantry Regiment at Ft. Benning, GA. During her tenure there, she was awarded the prestigious Battalion Food Service Representative Award consistently for four(4)years. She also worked fifteen(15) plus years with Muscogee County School District doing what she loved to do, COOK! She worked several years at Swift Textile Mill as a Spinner and later as a Weaver. She also woked many years with the Tasty Sandwich Company. She was a faithful member of Lewis Memorial Baptist Church where she served with the Usher Ministry for many years. Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Major Bennefield and a son, Gary B. Bennefield.


Survivors include three daughters, Rosalyn I. Wallace, Brenda F. Watson and Shirley B. Mathis; three sons, Gregory C. Bennefield, Brady B. Bennefield(Sharolyn) and Ellis G. Bennefield; fourteen grandchildren, twenty two great grandchildren, one great great grandson; a loving sister-in-law, Ruby Foster; a devoted niece, Barbara King; and a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends to include lifetime friends Lillian Henderson, Vernice Alexander, Mary Ann Holmes and Bonnie Veasley.
