Doug Nichol

Douglas “Doug” Wayne Nichol, 66, of Calgary, Alberta, passed away, Sunday, December 6, 2015 at the San Javier Hospital in Nuevo Vallarta, Mexico.

 

Doug was born May 14, 1949 in Swift Current, Saskatchewan to Donald and Elizabeth (Wallace) Nichol. He graduated from W.A. Beatty Collegiate in 1968 and from S.I.A.S.S. with a Diploma of Technology in Renewable Resources in 1972. On August 4, 1973 he married Dianne Lynn McMullen in Swift Current, SK. At the time of his passing they had been married for forty-two years. Doug was employed with Alberta Forrest Services from 1978-2002. After retiring, he worked for the City of Calgary in the Department of Parks and Recreation.

 

Doug will be lovingly remembered by his wife Dianne and their three children, Cindy Leanne Eisenhauer of Porter’s Lake, NS, Jennifer Kay Nichol and her partner Rob Lunman of Calgary, AB, Trevor Douglas Nichol and his wife Allison of Calgary, AB. Doug will be sadly missed by his three grandchildren, Jacob and Jonah Eisenhauer, and Rose Lunman. He is also survived by his mother Elizabeth Nichol of Edmonton, AB; his sister Sharon Pierce (Dr. Patrick Pierce) of Edmonton, AB; his in-laws Ethel McMullen, Ken McMullen (Diane), Cathie McDonald (Leonard), and Lois Bourner (Gary). Doug will also be forever remembered by his nieces and nephews and his many friends. He was preceded by his father, Donald and his son-in-law Dennis Eisenhauer.

 

In his younger days, Doug always looked forward to family camping trips with his wife and children, often meeting up with extended family and friends. He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed attending games and supporting teams in Calgary. You could often find Doug reading the paper or a magazine and keeping up with current events. Most recently, Doug’s many interests included traveling to new places, going to the casino, visiting friends and family, adding to his different collections and playing board games and cards. One activity he truly enjoyed was spending time with his children and grandchildren.
