|Let the memory of Doug-Roy Douglas be with us forever|
"Happy Birthday, Brother 'O Mine
On this day, you'd be 59
Remembering today all the great times together
Missing having you with us, now more than"
"Happy Birthday Doug! Hope you are having a grand time wherever you are and laughing the days away. I'll be toasting your birthday today with a fine IPA and wishing you were here to join me. Love you always!"
"Well, it took me 10 days to gather the various cell phone pictures, but now I have posted them. Diann and I went down to the Ponce Inlet Lighthouse with Mom on 21 May 2016, the 5th anniversary of my brother's passing. It is hard to believe it has been 5 years already and I still think of him every day. Hope you are having fun, Mr. Douglas ;>)"
"From Ellen Bradley:
If tears could build a stairway,
and memories a lane,
I would walk right up to heaven
and bring you back again.
No farewell words were spoken,
No time to say “Goodbye.”
You were gone before I knew it,
and only God knows why.
My heart still aches with sadness,
and secret tears still flow.
What it meant to love you –
No one can ever know.
But now I know you want me
To mourn for you no more;
To remember all the happy times
Life still has much in store.
Since you’ll never be forgotten,
I pledge to you today~
A hallowed place within my heart
Is where you’ll always stay."
"58 years ago a baby boy was born. He lived life fully, acted honorably, thought and spoke wisely, joked and laughed heartily, and loved deeply and cherishingly. But most importantly, he was a great son, husband, brother, uncle and friend to all who ever met and knew him (and generally fun to be with). He shall always be remembered fondly and his life celebrated as a positive force in the world. Rock On in the Great Beyond!"
"You once gave me a happy birthday painted wineglass. I will toast to your birthday."
"Happy birthday, Doug! We think of you often & miss you. I was looking at some old photos last week & it reminded me of the Easter weekends we would spend in Dallas. You were such a great godfather to Gina."
"I cried when you passed away
I still cry today
Although I loved you dearly
I couldn't make you stay
A golden heart stopped beating
Hard working hands at rest
God broke my heart to prove to me
He only takes the best
- Trina Beth Herington"
"Doug, I think of you every day. There is always something that happens or that I see or hear that reminds me of things you said, did or felt..............or makes me wonder what you would think, do or say if you were still here. I still celebrate your life and philosophies by living up to them, spreading them and expanding on them. My credo, "Have a good time, all the time," is hard to live up to. I hope you are still experiencing the sentiment of this credo, even from your latest vantage point, outside our Earthly realm.
Your loving brother,
Ephram Ronbert the Zimbalist Humperdinkel"
"Life takes some way to early. They always say the good die young and I know that was true of Doug. He went way to early for all of us. He had a truly good soul and a big heart."
"Over the past four years, something occurs everyday that triggers fond memories of my best friend. It never would have occurred to him how much everyone would miss him. We often joked with each other that we wanted to pass on together because we both knew how much it would suck without the other. And it does, but his jovial outlook on life and the many memories we shared, brings lots of comfort. I can imagine him singing along.......and smile.
“When you’re chewing on life’s gristle,
Don’t grumble, give a whistle
And this will help things turn out for the best
And....always look on the bright side of life....
Always look on the bright side of life.”"
"Hard to believe it's been four years. Gets me every time I visit this site."
"Doug, we all miss your smile that would brighten any day."
"We thought of you today
But that is nothing new
We thought about you yesterday
And days before that too
We think of you in silence
We often speak your name
All we have are memories
And a picture in a frame
Your memory's a keepsake
From which we'll never part
God has you in his arms.......
We have you in our hearts"
"I knew you for such a short time but enough time to know the good soul in you. Those who know you are truly blessed."
"Happy Birthday, Doug. We know you are celebrating in style and want you to know we miss you and really appreciate having known you! Party on, Garth."
"Happy Birthday, Doug-ster! Here's a toast to your birthday and the memory of how you loved celebrating birthdays, no matter who was having one. Love & miss you forever, Ger"
"We miss you, Doug! So many great memories, you were an awesome friend."
"Hi Son, it was 57 years ago that I saw you for the first time. There will be a time that I will see you again .
Auf Wiedersehen, Mutti"
"Hope you are having a blast in Heaven - It was great knowing you - always a smile and a great since of humor. You will always be missed.
Diann and I went out and celebrated for you on the evening of 21 May 2014. We had a great time and reminissed about all the great times we had together and all the fun things you were able to do in your life. Haven't been on my computer all week, so just now catching up on the posts. Hard to believe it's been three years and still miss you like it was yesterday. As a co-founding member of the Church of Doug and a long-standing Elderman, I have taken the liberty/authority to add two holidays to the 4 supreme holy days (the two equinoxes and the two solstices). The 5th Supreme Holy Day shall be celebrated as such on May 21 every year and the 6th Supreme Holy Day, shall be celebrated as much on 29 July (just picked those days at random :>)
See you someday on the other side. All my love, your little brother, Ephram Zymbalburt, Jr."
"Hi Son, miss you very much,"
"Great, great, great guy. As the song says, time may march on but the memories linger on. The pictures say it all. Doug lived life to the fullest, and all who knew him were touched by him."
"We miss Doug a lot also and can't believe three years have gone by. In spite of the lingering sadness, this site never fails to elicit a smile when I look at the photos. He left some great memories and certainly a big footprint on all our lives."
"We were talking about Doug a few days ago & how much we miss him. Love and many hugs to you, Geri."
"Here we are at the 3rd anniversary of Doug's passing on 5/21.
5/21 when added together equals 8 and turned on it's side is the sign of infinity. May our memories together live on forever.
Love & miss you forever & ever.."
"Well, it's 2014! Still missing me some Doug-Roy. Hope everyone has a great year!"
"HAPPY BIRTHDAY BRO !!! Wish you could be here to celebrate it with us. Hope you are celebrating from another dimension :>) Some day, I'll be there with you, so keep a beer cold for me.
Love you and miss you more than ever,
"Rich and I think of Doug often with fond memories. We toasted to him yesterday and played some Zappa in his honor. Missing you love Rhea and Rich."
"Another year gone. Happy Birthday, Doug! Hope you're having a grand celebration! Love you & miss you!!"
"Driving down I10 yesterday & thought of Doug as we passed the little town of Flatonia. Many fun chili-cook off memories! Miss you, Doug!"
"Miss you more than ever Bro-bert :>) Went down to the Ponce Inlet Light House yesterday with Summer, Savannah and Ellen/Mom/Oma. We threw some flowers into the water at the pier where we tossed in the ashes. Ate a dozen oysters and drank 2 beers in Doug's honor. Need to download the pictures now. Thinking about Doug all the time and still can't believe he's gone :>("
"I love looking at the photos. Doug, you would love Tucker, Geri's furry pal. He's a good dog and good companion."
"Continue to think of you everyday and will always miss you ...from giving your opinion on which earrings I should wear to your hugs and kisses. Ironically, Dave Matthews Band was to play in Austin tonight. I know you're at peace and enjoying your after life just like you loved your life here. Wait for me....can't wait to laugh with you again. Love you forever!"
"Two years have gone by in a heartbeat. Know you are sharing your tremendous warmth and love in the afterlife. Miss you still!"
"Happy Birthday, Doug. The smile on your face was always contagious. Wish we could've been neighbors a lot longer."
"Happy Birthday Doug!!!
We will celebrate your birth today. Wish you were here!"
I thought of you today, but that is nothing new.
I thought about you yesterday and days before that too.
I think of you in silence, and often speak your name.
All I have are memories and picture in a frame.
Your memory is a keepsake, from which I'll never part.
God has you in his arms - I have you in my heart."
"I love you Uncle Doug. Miss you so much! Where ever you ventured on to, I hope you're having a blast. <3"
"It's been a little over a year. I still just can't believe it, that Doug is not with us here any longer. I miss his political emails, our humorous phone convesations and especially our visits and travels together. His spirit lives on in our hearts and his memory makes me glad to have known him and shared so many good times. Rock on, bro', you're still my favorite brother, EVER!"
"What a year. Doug, I miss you more than you could imagine..... your love, optimism, humor, patience and everything else. But, I'm grateful to have all the memories of our good times together, some that still make me LOL. You were a one and only and I'll always love you."
"We were talking about Doug last week in Dallas with some old mutual friends. We laughed about all the practical jokes that Doug played on us over the years. We miss him!"
"I can't believe it has been a year already since we lost Doug. We still think about him all the time and know his presence lives on through all the happy memories we have of him. To live in hearts we leave behind is not to die."
"Doug's Celebration sounded wonderful - I wish I could have been there but was here in spirit. We will always
hold him in our hearts and our prayers will alway be with you Geri. Love Jean & David"
"The Celebration pictures are posted and thanks so much to Cindy for taking them! It was great to see everyone, but the time went way too fast. Doug would have had a grand time. I sincerely thank EVERYONE for your support, thoughts and prayers over the past months!! Love, Geri"
"If any one has pictures from the 10/9/11 party, please post/share on this site or send to me via email (firstname.lastname@example.org). Thanks again. It was so great seeing you and being together to celebrate Doug's life. I love you all!"
"It was great seeing friends and family together on 10/9/11. Many I had not seen since Doug and Geri's wedding (1991), others almost as long; all too infrequently. The party reminded me how charming and entertaining Doug and all our friends are. Wish it could have lasted longer!!!"
"I would like to thank everyone for their participation (in person and in spirit) in Doug's memorial celebration event on 9 Oct 2011. Although bad weather caused the boat ride out in to the Atlantic to be cancelled, we were able to give Doug's ashes to the sea via Ponce Inlet."
"HAPPY BIRTHDAY, DOUG !!!
Today we will celebrate the 54th anniversary of your birth. We miss you, bro :("
"Knowing Doug was such a fine way to cap off the 80s and start the 90s. His smile brightened Houston summer days. His laughter- more refreshing than a round at the Ale House. Sad that our paths diverged. Catch ya later! John & Gwen"
"It was always a pleasure to see Doug around the Villas. He always had a smile and a friendly word which usually resulted in a nice conversation. We're glad we had the opportunity to know him. Bonita and Gary"
"I am sorry I didn't get to know Doug for very long. He was always smiling and happy. Now I see why - he apparently lived life to the fullest and enjoyed all kinds of places and experiences. The photos were wonderful. I will miss him."
"Doug, you were not the best croquet player in the world. Swnding your green ball was always fun. We have retired your mallet. Did not know you for long enough, but we knew our friendship would last forever. We miss you so much. Our Sundays will"
"I'm proud to say the other "evil" Doug was my friend. I know I'll see things that will remind me of Doug (like Dave's Insanity hot sauce) and I'll smile. You are missed Doug."
"Doug was one of my best friends from the time we met. We lived one block away from each other and hung out together for many years. He was my Best Man at my first wedding. We always stayed in touch. Nothing but fun memories and good times. He will be"
"Doug shared my credo, "Have a good time, all of the time" (and did a good job living up to it).
He also lived up to the old show-business credo, "Give the people what they want, but always leave them wanting more." Rock on!"
"Doug was certainly a fun guy to be with; intellectual conversation, broad musical and video entertainment tastes, enjoyment of good food and drink from all around the world, scuba/snorkeling/beach/skiing enthusiast, and all-around great guy!"
"Doug was my favorite brother, ever. We had such a great childhood together and were best friends as teenagers all the way through to the end. We stayed close through frequent visits, phone calls and email. I love you, bro' and always look up to yo"
"Doug was like a well loved member of our family. He was in our wedding in 1989 and did us the honor of being Gina's godfather in 1993. I met him in 1986 and have enjoyed his friendship ever since. I loved him very much and he will be missed."
"My friendship with Doug goes back nearly 32 years. We worked and played together, went on trips together and tipped many
a beer together. The stories are too countless to write. Needless to say his passing leaves a great emptiness."
"I am truly saddened having read of the passing of my dear friend Roy, as I knew him from DeLand High school. After High school, Roy and I found cheap apartments on Smith St. Many great memories were made there. My condolences for your loss Geri."
"Doug is already missed. I am still having a hard time believing it. He was truly a great guy and an awesome friend. I remember countless nights spent at the Bradley-White residence on my many visits to Big D. Doug and Geri were always great hosts. Ou"
"This is a great tribute web site. The pictures take me way back to memories from Houston. I've known Doug for nearly 30 years. A great man, someone you just wanted to be around if you wanted to be happy. I will miss him"
